I had a moment today that humbled me.

Walking home from church, two little girls, maybe 4 and 6 years old approached me. They spoke to me in Yoruba, but it wasn’t the "surface" version I’m used to. It was Ìjìnlẹ̀ (Deep).
I asked, "What did you say?" They repeated it. Still, I didn't get it.
A third time they spoke... and I felt embarrassed. I’m Yoruba, but I was failing to understand their plea.
Most people would have walked away. I almost did. But these children refused to let me go.

They didn't get frustrated; they just got more persistent. They demonstrated, they gestured, and they stayed right there until I finally understood: "Please, help us cross to the other side."

As I held their hands and guided them across the busy road, the Holy Spirit dropped a word in my heart.
The Lesson of the Persistent Widow
I saw the spirit of the Persistent Widow from Luke 18 in those children. Jesus told that parable to show us that we should “always pray and not give up.” The widow didn't have a "special" connection to the judge, but she had persistence.

My little friends at the roadside didn't have a long-standing relationship with me, but they knew I was their "helper" in that moment. They refused to be silent until the connection was made.

Why are you stopping?

How many of us stop praying because we think God is "silent"? We ask once, we don’t see a sign, and we assume He didn't understand or He doesn't care.

But these kids taught me: PERSISTENCE IS THE LANGUAGE OF FAITH.

If they had given up when I didn't understand the first time, they would still be stuck on the wrong side of the road.

God isn't ignoring you. Sometimes, He is inviting you to stay in His presence a little longer, to cry out a little louder, and to show Him that you know He is your only way to the other side.

Don’t let the "busy road" of life intimidate you into silence. If a 4-year-old has the faith to keep asking until she gets help, you as a child of the Most High have the right to stay at His feet until your change comes.

Sometimes the 'Deep Yoruba' of life is just God's way of asking us to stay a little longer in His presence.

Most of you know me simply as COTA. That name has been a part of my journey for so long, and it’s not going anywhere!

I’ve decided to bring my personal world and my mission-driven work together under one roof. I want this page to be a place where you see the real me, alongside the incredible impact we are making through the COTA Foundation. No more managing separate lives—we’re bringing everything into this one space.

It’s been a bit quiet on the feed lately, but the vision has been louder than ever. 2026 is the year we put words into action.
