A fire has engulfed the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja.

The blaze reportedly started on the fourth floor of the building and has spread extensively.

An eyewitness, Anthony Ameh, a staff member of Zenith Bank operating within the FMBN premises, said the fire was "very intense," noting that despite the deployment of about four Federal Fire Service trucks, firefighters were still battling to bring the situation under control.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and no official statement has been issued on possible casualties or the extent of the damage.

BREAKING: Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, Elected 33rd NBA President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), making history as the first woman to be elected to lead the association.

She secured 12,317 votes (47.18%) to defeat her closest rival, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, who polled 7,934 votes (30.39%). Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, finished third with 5,855 votes (22.43%).

Although Priscilla Kuye previously served as NBA President, she assumed office after then-President Clement Akpamgbo, SAN, was appointed Attorney General of the Federation during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Badejo-Okusanya therefore becomes the first woman to be elected President of the NBA and only the second woman to lead the association in its history.
