Will the gospel be safe with youšŸ˜”?

When it finds your hands, will it still look like Jesus when you’re done holding it? Because the gospel is not a slogan, not a Sunday outfit, not a loud Amen with a quiet life. It is a cross. It is blood. It is truth that refuses to flatter pride.
Will it be safe with you when it tells you to forgive the one who never said sorry, when it asks you to let go of what feels good but is killing your soul? Repentance is not tears alone—it is a turning, a breaking, a holy decision to walk away from what God already walked you out of. We say, ā€œLord, use me,ā€ but do we say, ā€œLord, change me?ā€ We want power, but resist the pruning; we want mercy, but cling to secret sin. The gospel is gentle, but it is not weak. It will sit with you, then stand you up and say, ā€œGo and sin no more.ā€
So ask yourself—will it be safe with you when it confronts your habits, your bitterness, your hidden rooms? Will you guard it with obedience or trade it for comfort; will you live it in private and not just preach it in public? Today, repentance is calling, not to shame you, but to free you, because grace is not permission to stay the same; it is power to become new. So here I am, Lord—strip me, search me, break what doesn’t look like You. Let the gospel be safe with me, not because I am perfect, but because I am yielded.
Amen.

Most relationships don't fail because of the hard times…

They fail because these conversations never happened before the hard times arrived.

Conversation 1: "How do we handle conflict?"

Don't wait until you're in the middle of a fight to discover you have completely different approaches. Do you need space to process, or do you need to talk it through immediately? What feels like rejection to one person might be self-regulation for the other.

Discuss: What does repair look like for each of you after a disagreement? How do you know when you're ready to reconnect?

Conversation 2: "What does support look like when life gets difficult?"

When one of you is going through something hard: work stress, family issues, personal struggles - what do you each need? Some people need practical help. Others need emotional presence. Some need space to work through it alone first.

Discuss: How can you support each other without fixing, rescuing, or taking things personally when your partner is struggling?

Conversation 3: "What are our non-negotiables?"

Not everything is negotiable in relationships, and that's okay. But you need to know each other's absolute boundaries before you accidentally cross them during difficult times.

Discuss: What would genuinely make you consider leaving? What do you need to feel safe staying, even when things are hard?

These conversations often feel awkward when things are good. They did for me when I started having them in my current relationship. The other partner might even see them as premature.

But having them during calm moments, as early as possible, creates the foundation that holds you together when storms come.
