♿🌱 Empowering for Inclusive Climate Action!

The Disability Projects Initiative with support from the Disability Rights Fund successfully conducted the 2nd Cohort of a 2-Day Capacity Building Training on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State, Nigeria.

The training, held from 6th – 7th April, 2026, at the Atlas Training Institute, Kano brought together diverse groups of persons with across five clusters. Through engaging discussions and practical learning sessions, participants were empowered with knowledge and skills for climate change adaptation, mitigation and building within their communities.

The 2-day sessions were highly interactive, allowing participants to share experiences, discuss challenges faced during -related , and propose inclusive solutions that ensure no one is left behind. The training also emphasized the importance of in climate information dissemination, community awareness, and policy implementation.

Earlier on 5th May, 2026 the Disability Projects Initiative paid a courtesy visit to the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), where we were warmly received by the Executive Director, Dr. Y. Z. Ya’u, and his team.

We had a productive discussion on strengthening DPI’s organizational capacity and exploring opportunities for collaboration to advance inclusion and development.

We look forward to building a strong collaboration for greater impact!

WORKSHOP COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!

The Disability Projects Initiative with support from the Disability Rights Fund successfully conducted a 2-Day Organisational Policies Review and Updating Workshop from 20th – 21st April 2026.

The session, facilitated by Consultant Aisha Kwaku & Associates brought together the DPI team to critically review and strengthen key organisational policies, including:
✔️ Finance & Procurement
✔️ Safeguarding & Child Protection
✔️ PSEAH
✔️ HR & Staff Code of Conduct
✔️ Gender & Anti-Fraud Policies

💡 The workshop provided a platform to identify gaps, enhance accountability systems, and ensure national and global standards across all policies.

This milestone strengthens DPI’s commitment to building a more inclusive, transparent, and accountable organisation.

♿ Together, we continue to promote the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities!

The Disability Projects Initiative successfully hosted the 1st Cohort of a 2-Day Capacity Building Training on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State, Nigeria. The training took place between 15 — 16 April, 2026.

With the support of the Disability Rights Fund, this training equipped participants with practical knowledge and skills to understand climate change impacts, strengthen resilience, and actively participate in .

A Courtesy Visit to Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change

The Disability Projects Initiative paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to formalize collaboration and strengthen institutional partnership on disability-inclusive climate action in Kano State.

During the visit, the Project Manager, Safullahi Mukhtar Sadiq, introduced the newly launched project titled “Empowering Persons with Disabilities for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Kano State, Nigeria,” funded by the Disability Rights Fund. He explained that one of the core objectives of the project is to ensure that persons with disabilities are reasonably included in Kano State’s climate change policies and programmes, given their heightened vulnerability to environmental degradation and climate-related risks.

He further emphasized that the initiative seeks to strategically position persons with disabilities within government climate policies, disaster preparedness frameworks, and broader environmental development programmes to guarantee equitable participation, protection, and access to climate adaptation and mitigation opportunities.

In his response, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, conveyed his commitment through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Mustapha Nuraddeen Muhammad. He reiterated that the present administration under Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized environmental transformation across the state.

According to the Commissioner, the administration is strongly committed to enhancing vegetative cover, improving sanitation systems, promoting better air quality, and implementing sustainable climate resilience strategies for the overall benefit of citizens.

He emphasized that inclusiveness remains a critical pillar of the State’s climate agenda and assured the DPI delegation of the Ministry’s full support in aligning policies and programmes to effectively accommodate and integrate persons with disabilities.
