FFS KWARA COMMAND UNDERTAKES SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION FOLLOWING BUILDING COLLAPSE IN ILORIN

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, has responded to a distress call involving the collapse of a three-storey residential building at Oyan Compound, Masalasi Gogoro, Abemi Area, Ilorin, in the early hours of Tuesday, 1st September, 2026.

The distress call was received at approximately 0545hrs, following which the Command promptly mobilised an FFS rescue crew to the scene. The team, under the command of DSF Abdulkareem, arrived at approximately 0605hrs and immediately commenced rescue operations.

Preliminary assessment at the scene revealed that the Boys' Quarter section of the three-storey residential building collapsed while the occupants were asleep, trapping eight (8) members of the same family beneath the debris. The building, reportedly belonging to the family of Alhaji Muhammed Bolakale, comprises 26 rooms and covers an estimated area of 50ft by 100ft.

The rescue operation was conducted in collaboration with other relevant emergency response agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (KWASEMA), Kwara State Fire SERVICE, the Nigeria Police FORCE and other emergency services. Through sustained and coordinated rescue efforts, four (4) victims were rescued alive, while four (4) suspected fatalities were recovered from the collapsed structure.

The State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, DCF Ibrahim Sharafadeen Adisa, commiserates with the families of the deceased and wishes the rescued victims a speedy recovery. He also commends the personnel of the Federal Fire Service and other responding agencies for their professionalism, cooperation and sustained efforts throughout the rescue operation.

The Command therefore urges members of the public to promptly report building emergencies, structural defects or other signs of imminent danger to the appropriate emergency response agencies. Timely reporting remains essential to effective emergency response, rescue operations and the preservation of lives and property.

FFS PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO ILORIN SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN

The State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, DCF Ibrahim Adisa, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, at the Local Government Secretariat, Fufu, Kwara State.

The visit was aimed at formally introducing the newly appointed Controller and further strengthening the existing relationship and collaboration between the Federal Fire Service and the Local Government.

Speaking during the visit, DCF Ibrahim Adisa expressed his appreciation for the relationship that has existed between the Command and the Local Government, noting that such a partnership remains vital to effective fire prevention, safety awareness, and emergency response. He emphasised the need for renewed collaboration and proposed further joint initiatives aimed at strengthening fire safety measures and improving emergency preparedness and response within the Local Government.

The Controller further urged the Chairman to sustain the existing support and explore additional areas of cooperation that would enhance public safety and protect lives and property across Ilorin South Local Government and Kwara State at large.

Responding, the Chairman, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, appreciated the Controller for the visit and expressed his readiness to sustain and strengthen the relationship between the Local Government and the Federal Fire Service. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that would enhance fire safety, emergency response, and overall public protection, assuring that the Local Government would continue to work closely with the Command towards safeguarding the lives and property of its people.

FFS KWARA COMMAND STRENGTHENS STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT WITH IEDPU

In continuation of its strategic stakeholder engagement drive, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, led by the newly appointed State Controller, DCF Ibrahim Adisa, paid a courtesy visit to the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) National Headquarters, Ilorin, during the Union’s monthly meeting.

Speaking during the engagement, the State Controller appreciated the leadership and members of the Union for the warm reception accorded the Command and commended IEDPU for its various developmental initiatives towards the advancement of the Ilorin Emirate. He called for increased collaboration with the Union in the area of strategic fire safety infrastructure and other emergency management initiatives across the State, stressing that collective efforts would enhance fire prevention, protection and control while contributing to a safer and more sustainable society.

Also addressing the gathering, the Head of Enforcement, DSF O. Ahmed, highlighted the Controller’s vision for the strategic expansion of fire safety infrastructure within the Emirate. He further outlined possible areas of collaboration between the FFS Kwara Command and IEDPU, particularly in strengthening public safety, fire prevention awareness and emergency preparedness.

In his response, the President of IEDPU, ACG AbdulMumin A. Abdulmalik (Rtd.), welcomed the State Controller and congratulated him on his assumption of office as the new Controller of the Service in Kwara State. He underscored the importance of effective fire safety and emergency response systems to the development of a resilient society and expressed the Union’s willingness to support initiatives aimed at establishing a robust fire safety architecture in Ilorin and its environs.

The engagement ended with both the Federal Fire Service Kwara Command and IEDPU expressing their commitment to deepening their existing relationship through sustained dialogue, strategic partnership and practical interventions in fire safety and emergency management.

FFS KWARA COMMAND AND 7UP BOTTLING COMPANY KICK OFF FRIENDSHIP ON THE PITCH

The Federal Fire Service Football Club, Kwara State Command, traded fire for football as they faced off against the 7UP Bottling Company Football Club in a friendly encounter at the Lower Niger River Basin Football Field.

The match was filled with energy, teamwork, determination and healthy competition, with both sides displaying impressive skills and great sportsmanship.

At the final whistle, 7UP Bottling Company Football Club emerged victorious with a narrow 1–0 win. But beyond the scoreline, everyone came out a winner as the encounter strengthened friendship, promoted unity and encouraged physical fitness among the participating organisations.

It was a day of football, fun and fellowship, proving that while the Federal Fire Service is always ready to fight fire, its personnel can also bring the heat on the football pitch.

FFS KWARA COMMAND STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, under the leadership of the newly appointed State Controller, ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen, has paid a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the Area Controller, Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara Area Command, DCC Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi.

The FFS delegation, comprising members of the Command’s management team, was warmly received by the leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the two agencies and promoting closer cooperation in safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State.

Speaking during the visit, ACF Sarafadeen reaffirmed the mandate of the Federal Fire Service to save lives, protect property and provide humanitarian services. He stressed the importance of stronger inter-agency collaboration, particularly in emergency response, fire prevention and public safety.

FFS KWARA SEEKS STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH ILORIN WEST COUNCIL ON FIRE SAFETY

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, has called for stronger collaboration with the Ilorin West Local Government Area to strengthen fire prevention, emergency preparedness and response, and protect lives and property within the council and across Kwara State.

The call was made when the new State Controller, ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen, led the Command on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Hon. Shehu AbdulRahman Babatunde Ladan.

Speaking during the visit, ACF Sarafadeen expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Chairman and solicited the Local Government’s support and cooperation in strengthening fire safety measures and improving emergency response within the area.

He emphasised the importance of close collaboration between the Fire Service and local authorities, noting that effective fire prevention and response require the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE KWARA COMMAND TAKES FIRE SAFETY MESSAGE TO ROYAL FM 95.1

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, has taken its fire safety message to the airwaves, featuring live on Royal FM 95.1 during the “Imojuto Owo Ara Ilu” programme in Ilorin on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.

The programme, sponsored by the Elite Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD), formed part of the Command’s monthly fire safety sensitisation programme aimed at taking practical fire prevention messages directly to members of the public.

Representing the Public Relations Officer, DSF Jimoh Modibbo Ibrahim, Assistant Superintendent of Fire II (ASF II) Adam Aberi and ASF II Yusuf Abdulkadir used the platform to educate listeners on fire prevention, safety practices and appropriate actions to take during emergencies.

ASF II Yusuf Abdulkadir also informed listeners about the recent change in leadership of the Command, announcing the assumption of office of ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen, an indigene of Ilorin, as the new State Controller, succeeding ACF Bakare Mary.

He further highlighted the commissioning of the Offa Fire Station by the Olofa of Offa, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response and improve fire safety service delivery in the area.

Speaking on recent fire incidents, ASF II Adam Aberi urged members of the public to remain vigilant, noting that electrical surges have been a recurring factor in recent fire outbreaks. He also stressed that negligence and human error remain major contributors to fire incidents.

He advised residents to take simple but important precautions, including switching off electrical appliances when not in use, avoiding overloading electrical sockets and keeping combustible materials away from heat sources.

He further encouraged households, businesses and institutions to acquire portable fire extinguishers and ensure that members of their premises know how to use them properly.

The Federal Fire Service Kwara State Command continues to encourage residents to make fire safety a daily habit, as prevention remains the safest and most effective way to protect lives and property.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, under the leadership of the State Controller, ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen, paid a courtesy visit to the Majority Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Oba Abdulkadir Mogaji. The visit was part of the Command’s stakeholder engagement following the assumption of office by the new State Controller.

In his remarks, ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen expressed his delight at the opportunity to serve his home State and reiterated his commitment to ensuring enhanced and effective operations in responding to fire incidents and other emergencies, while safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State. He emphasised the importance of the Federal Fire Service as a first responder and expressed his resolve to strengthen and sustain collaboration with relevant stakeholders towards improved fire prevention, early detection, protection, control and effective emergency response across the State.
