HOW CAN I GIVE 100% CONCENTRATION TO MY STUDY?

Once I have asked a friend why don't I understand and grasp thing like him. He is super intelligent. He told me an age old story about a brahamin teacher and his disciple.
The story goes like this- There was a guru and he had a disciple who lived along with him. The disciple tried to learn every thing the Brahmin teaches. Since he was living in gurukul he has less diversion in his studies, yet he is unable to recall many important thing taught by his guru. One day he asked his guruji about the solution. He heard him silently and said he will reply tomorrow after the morning bath at river Ganga in morning.
So morning came both went to the river to bathe. First the Guru took the dip and then asked his disciple to take a dip.
Once the boy took the dip, the guru held his head tight not allowing the disciple to come out of water. The disciple tried his best to come out but all went in vain. Now he started gasping for air but respite doesn't seem to come and he was sure he is going to die now.
To his respite the guru pulled him out suddenly and asked him what was one thing he wanted when he was inside the water he said air to breathe.
At this the teacher said when you want something like the air to breathe while in water you will have 100 percent attention to that thing. If that is the only thing you want at time, your brain will be 100 percent attentive.
