Assessment should lead to growth.
Every student learns differently, and assessments help teachers understand those differences. They show what learners understand, where they need support, and what teaching approaches are working.
For students, assessment provides a clear picture of their progress. Meaningful feedback helps them recognize their strengths, improve their weaknesses, and take greater ownership of their learning.
Assessment isn’t just about measuring learning, it’s about using what we learn to help every student grow.

Great lessons and teaching don’t just happen by chance, alot happens behind the scenes.
Preparation, collaboration, and teachers who understand what learners need.
Yesterday, we came together - Uplifting Our Children and Custodians of African Literature - COAL for a Teachers’ Orientation, and prepared to test a new adapted curriculum.
Together, we’re building practical, relevant learning approaches for our learners.
Quality education starts with those who make learning happen.

Did you know that the game of Scrabble could inspire learning?
A few weeks ago, Mr. Osa Negro Igbinadolor visited our centre and took an interest in our children and their love for learning. He decided to coach them to the game of scrabble and train them for a tournament.
It’s been a few weeks and something beautiful is happening. Our learners are discovering new words, improving their spelling, building their vocabulary, and teaching each other.
Learning can be serious without being boring. When children learn through play, they engage, explore, and remember more. We believe in learning through play.
Our profound appreciation to the Plateau state Scrabble Association President, Mr. Mohammed Abbas who got us 2 boards.

Every child has innate potential. But potential needs the right foundation to grow.
At Jebbu Miango Reads we equip children with the knowledge, skills, values, and confidence they need to learn, grow, and rise beyond the limitations of their environment.
Their environment may shape their beginning, but it does not have to define their future.
Join us today on our mission.

Is literacy even important?
Absolutely! Literacy forms the basic foundation for all learning.
Our founder, Kangyan Gana Kay Gee saw the need for literacy in her community and, instead of folding her arms, took up the challenge and started literacy class for children in Jebbu Miango.
She often says, “Every community has a b**r parlour, but not libraries.”
Because of her vision and desire to see children read and write, we now have Jebbu Miango Reads a space where children can learn to read and write, have access to books, and explore.
What will you do to help a child learn to read and write?
Donate a book.
Read with a child.
Support a literacy programme.
Teach a child a new word.
Create a safe space where children can learn.
Do something!
Literacy is for all people.
Happy International Literacy Day!
We can travel anywhere in the world at any time without leaving our place.
How?
Through books.
On Saturday, 29th August 2026, TheAfter Page and Book Tea & Biscuits with Nanret visited our learners at Jebbu Miango Reads and brought a gift of 51 books.
The day was filled with fun and learning through a mini Scrabble competition, Read Aloud, and a spelling competition.
But the highlight of the day was the Dream Tree.
The children pen down their dreams into words and see that their dreams are worth nurturing, no matter where they come from.
Thank you, The After Page and Book Tea & Biscuits with Nanret, for coming to JMR and investing in the dreams of our learners.
At JMR, we will continue to welcome initiatives that empower and inspire our learners to greatness
Sometimes, all a child needs is a book, a little encouragement, and someone who believes in their dreams.

Is digital literacy important as reading and writing?
If the future is digital, are our children ready for it?
The world is becoming increasingly digital, and children need more than access to technology. They need the skills to use it safely, confidently, and meaningfully.
Digital literacy equips children to learn, explore, connect, and take advantage of opportunities in the 21st century.
That’s why we’re helping our learners prepare not just for today, but for the future.
It was another week of learning, unlearning and relearning.
Partner with us on this task of introducing our learners to the digital World.

From the 2nd to 8th and 9th to 15th of August 2026, 8 and 5 of our learners respectively attended the Junior and senior Camps, organized by the ECWA Camp Youth Alive.
The ECYA camp 2026 gave them room to discover new interests. Some of our learners started learning the keyboard. All of them used their hands to create something beautiful.
Small skills today that will become big possibilities tomorrow.
A big thank you to our donors for giving and helping us create opportunities for these children to learn, grow, and become great contributors to society.
To us it might be just another camp but these experiences might just be defining stepping stones to God's plan for their lives.

What does it cost to educate a child, and what does it cost to leave one ignorant?
“Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.” -Walter Cronkite
Education may seem costly, but the price of ignorance is far greater.
We will keep showing up. Just like this week. Doing everything we can to give these children the foundational education they need.
One lesson at a time. One day at a time. One week at a time. It's a journey.
Have a great weekend!
It’s Not Possible?
Something happened this week during one of our classes.
One of our teachers told the learners during lessons that we want to see them explore the world, visit new places, do great things, and use their knowledge to do something beautiful in their communities.
Then came the response:
“It’s not possible.”
They burst into laughter.
Why?
For some of them, their current reality has become the limit of what they believe is possible.
So, to them, travelling the world or achieving something great feels like a dream meant for someone else.
But that is why we exist.
We want our learners to know that where they come from does not have to determine where they are going.
We may not be able to give them everything, but we will help them dream differently.
Because before a child can become something great, they must first believe that it is possible.
And maybe one day, one of those children will look back and say:
“I thought it wasn't possible. But someone helped me believe it was.”
That is the kind of future we want to help build.
Honestly, our learners are already going places and doing big things. They just haven’t realised it yet. We have to remind them that everything starts somewhere.
dream big, believe it is possible, and keep going.
It was a great week of learning at the resource centre.
