🌾 AMAWBIA NEW YAM FESTIVAL (ILI JI 2026)

The Traditional Ruler, Okpaligwe Amawbia |||, the Nze na Ozo Council, and the entire Amawbia Community cordially invite all sons, daughters, friends, and visitors to the annual Amawbia New Yam Festival.

Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026

📜 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

8:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Homage to the King — Paying homage at the Palace by all town organs, women groups, friends, and visitors.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Arrival of Guests — Reception and seating at Eziokpaligwe Square.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Royal Procession — Grand procession from the Palace to Eziokpaligwe Square by the King, Nze na Ozo Council, and Cabinet Members.
1:00 PM: Festival Kick-Off,
Breaking of Kolanut, Traditional cutting and blessing of the New Yam (Iwa Ji).
2:00 PM: Biggest Yam Award Ceremony — Royal prize presentation by the King for the biggest yams cultivated by an indigene and a non-indigene.
3:00 PM: Cultural Festival & Entertainment — Grand performances by cultural groups, dance troupes, and displays.
> Notice: Farmers competing for the Biggest Yam Prizes should submit their harvest at the grounds before 1:00 PM.
