NAMES OF THE OKPAMERI COMMUNITIES (A-Z)

The following are names of the 23 towns/villages with their possible meaning/little history in OKPAMERI, which is located in akoko-edo local government area of edo state.

Generally, OKPAMERI means, *we are one*

1. Ayanwoza——- Meanng , they are the Uneme people in Okpameri. They comprises of uneme nekhua which means big uneme, Uneme Akpama, uneme akiosu, uneme erhurun, uneme Ekpedo and so on.

2. Ayegunle(Osi)——— This is an Okpameri speaking language under the akoko-edo central clan. It’s means world has come.

3. Bekuma———- The name may derive from a word meaning to gather or to collect, suggesting that the original bearers of the surname were involved in activities related to agriculture or trade, reflecting a communal or resource-oriented lifestyle.

4. Dangbala——— According to achieve record, dagbala was founded by one ogbonewa who fled from Benin after committing adultery with the wife of oba ovonramwen. The village was abandoned on the arrival of the nupes.

5. Ekpe——- This is an ibibio word for leopard. Ekpe is one of the four communities that make up north east clan with clan headship rotating among the traditional rulers in various Okpameri communities

6. Ekpesa———They traveled from Benin into modern-day Akoko-Edo and named their settlement Akpie-Ekpesa. Local meanings: Akpei — “we are one” Okpameri — “we are one people” Ekpesa — “we forbid curses”

7.Ekor—-According to Achives Ekor was founded by Ehiebor an early emigrant from Benin. It was sailed by the lbadan and its people took refuge at Ayaran where they remained only a short time. They submitted to the Nupes accepted “ajele" and paid tribute. Ekor means a farming village or dependency.

8. Ibillo—— Ibillo is a small town in akoko-edo and in oral tradition it’s believed that it migrated from the Benin kingdom, “Ibiyilo” meaning (this land is fertile) now called Ibillo is a central town in akoko-edo which has a lengthy road that link Abuja and Lagos.

9. Ikiran ille……… Ebune-Ugbo (Ikiran-Ile) - The people of this village has a common fore-Father who was more probably an early emigrant from Benin. He settled at what is now called Ebune-Ugbor which means Gods blessing. lkiran-Ile and by the middle of the last century a considerable village had grown up.

10. Ikiran Oke—— They are just about 7 miles from the Ikiran - Ile

11. Imoga ——- According to archives record Imoga was founded by One Uma, an early emigrant from Benin. It was attacked by Ibadan raiders and the people moved to the near-by hill. They eventually submitted to the Nupes and accepted an “ajele” and paid tribute. They returned to their old community about 1890. They have been administered from Kabba, Okene, Iddo, Fugar and Auchi. Imo-Oga meaning, The son of the soil.

12. Lampese—- Lampese was founded by one Ekpese who was banished from Benin by the Oba. Its people fled from Ibadan raiders and take refuge in Ogugu

13. Makeke—— which means “eye that are sharp or piercing. Makeke was founded by age-group sent out from Imoga to catch bush fowl for an annual sacrifice. These groups according to history are among the Okunlushos.

14. Ogbe——- A community or group of people living together. Ogbe is one of the Okpameri speaking villages in Akoko Edo. It belongs to the East Akoko Clan. Ogbe have very strong cultural ties with the Somorika people.

15. Ogugu—— A home to the Okpameri people.

16. Ojah—- The name was Oza meaning “strength and might”before but later named Ojah but neighboring village know them as Oza. Ojah is one of the towns that make up the Okpameri towns

17. Ojirami Afekunu——— Afe is the home of the town in ojirami

18. Ojirami Dam—— The Okpameri town that’s is built across a river in order to stop the water flowing and to make a lake.

19. Ojirami Kpeteshi——- kpeteshi, the road leading to the home of ojirami

20. Somorika——Somorika is a town located about five kilometres North-East of Igarra in the Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria The town speaks the Okpameri Language & its among the Okpameri group. The town is known for its rocky hills and beautiful mountains, It's also open to tourists for exploration.

21. Ugboshi Afe——The name Ugboshi means UGBE-OSHIZI (which means UGBE brought us here) *Ekpazi wars of 15th century made the enemy camp referred to us as 'Ebebekeze' Ugboshizi. Meaning a mass movement of people.
22. Ugboshi Ele—-The upper town of Ugboshi-afe

23. Unumu—— Onumu is one of the Okpameri speaking villages in Akoko Edo. It belongs to the Central Akoko Clan. Onumu have very strong cultural ties with the Somorika people.

As a man, keeping your p***s healthy and sweet is important.
