Teachers: The Bedrock of Every Society

Today, as we celebrate Teachers’ Day, I stand proud — not just as an educator, but as a shaper of dreams, a guide through uncertainty, and a witness to transformation.

Being a teacher is more than a profession; it’s a calling. It is the art of igniting curiosity where there was once confusion, of nurturing confidence where there was once fear, and of planting seeds of greatness in hearts that may not yet believe in themselves.

Every day, we enter our classrooms — physical or virtual — not just to teach lessons, but to touch lives. We see beyond mistakes, encourage resilience, and celebrate growth, no matter how small. The world may not always see the quiet sacrifices, the late-night grading, or the endless patience, but every student’s smile and every spark of understanding is our greatest reward.

To my fellow teachers: You are nation builders. You are change makers. You are the hope the world needs. Continue to teach with love, inspire with purpose, and lead with passion — because when a teacher believes, a generation rises.

Happy Teachers’ Day to all who educate, empower, and enlighten minds! 🌍📚✨

About my friend continues, one day she visited me and told me about her posting to the new secondary school after we finished from primary school that her mom said she doesn't want that school for her, and that she she look for me to know where l am schooling...l told her everything about my new secondary school and the benefits l would derive after l finished from that school as it was a commercial school then, she got home told her mom and before anything boom, l saw herself and mom came to my school to commence registration, the mother wanted both of us to be in school as she knew how much l meant to her daughter unknown to me the mother knew what she was doing was a me after plan. I as a minor was so very happy my best friend is now in my school. I welcomed her wholeheartedly to have come to my school. I was always there for her. Just when we passed to class 3 l noticed she was no longer a happy person. I asked her what the problem was ,but she refused telling or confiding in me...l became so worried that it was shortly before exams she was driven for school fees as we pay a token for school fees as a private commercial school back then unlike the government secondary school who do not pay fees at all back then in the 80s. For days she wasn't at school,l became trouble and trekked to her house one fateful day after the close of school. Getting there l asked after her mom and she told me she traveled unlike her mom. Days passed and she was always absent from school, until few weeks to exams she came to school informing me her fees had been paid in full by her old dad who struggled tirelessly to pay the fees. There was a secret she hid from me which l later discovered after many months, but in all of this l kept on giving her gift items and little money from my pocket money and little business l was into then, that is l sell Nico sweets and bazuka bubble gum after school then at the front side of our house near the street then and l kept giving her little food stuff from the one l was giving to cook for our family but in all of these my friend was never appreciative of my generosity, l later discovered her mom got married to her dad at a tender age and he had.....to be cont'd.........

Back then l had a friend whom l regarded as a sister and l tried to do everything possibly right to make her happy by giving her all she requested from me without hesitation, l play the role of an elder sister since am older to her just because l am aware life isn't easy for her parents. Sometimes l bring cooked food and foodstuffs for her from our house and l even allowed our teacher to flog me for her mistake she ought to collect cane for, all these l do for her to make her happy. But sad to say this same girl when she has anything to eat, she doesn't only hide it from me but would go outside the classroom or even enters the nearby bushes to eat it just for me not to partake of the food....this continues for years until we left primary school, but with all of this l still love her like a true sister. We left primary school and parted our ways to start our secondary education...l was posted to a school far away inside town and she was posted to another school not too far from my parents house, one day....to be continued
