Social impact initiative aimed at advocating against all forms of SGBV towards adolescents

Su***de prevention cannot be separated from conversations about safety, violence and support.

For some survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, the impact can extend far beyond the incident itself. Fear, stigma, isolation, loss of safety, trauma and feeling trapped can create profound emotional distress.

This does not mean that every survivor will experience suicidal thoughts or that SGBV is the only factor involved in su***de risk.

It means that preventing violence, responding to survivors with care, reducing stigma and ensuring people can access timely support are all part of creating conditions that protect lives.

Su***de Prevention and Awareness Month may have ended, but its conversation continues.

Prevention is not only about responding when someone reaches a crisis point. It is also about addressing the violence, silence and barriers to support that can place people at risk so a crisis doesn’t occur.

What can you do?
Start with one conversation. Listen without judgement. Challenge harmful attitudes. Know where to refer someone for support. And take signs of distress seriously.

Share this post to help someone understand why SGBV prevention belongs in the su***de prevention conversation.

The question of what consent truly is often comes up in our conversations with young people, and that is why we feel this post is relevant, starting with what consent isn’t.

It is important to emphasise that consent is more than the absence of a “No.”

Rather, it is a clear, voluntary and informed agreement to any kind of sexual activity, without pressure, fear, manipulation or assumptions.

We want young people to know that being in a relationship does not equal automatic consent. Neither does silence, previous intimacy, marriage, attraction or flirting equate to consent.

Understanding what consent is not is just as important as understanding what it is.

We must build relationships and communities where young people can say “Yes,” “No,” or “Not anymore” and still have their choices respected – not scorned, guilt-tripped or manipulated.

Save this post. Share it with someone who needs to see it. And start a conversation about consent today.

We’re kicking off this year’s Voices Against Violence (VAV) series with an important conversation on how harmful narratives shape conversations around FGM, sexual violence, and survivor voices.

Earlier this month, global advocacy called for Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) a reminder that harmful practices continue to affect the health, dignity, and wellbeing of women and girls.

And recently, public debates and misinformation surrounding sexual assault allegations are influencing how survivors are believed or silenced often with profound effects on their mental health and willingness to seek justice.

Join us and our speakers, Gloria Ukamaka Christopher and Stacey Ekpenyong, for a powerful dialogue on advocacy, accountability, and collectively protecting survivor voices.
