In a significant step toward addressing water insecurity in the Oshikoto Region, the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) and the Oshikoto Governor’s Office today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement urgent and sustainable water interventions.
The agreement, signed by EIF Chief Executive Officer, Benedict Libanda and Governor Sacky Kathindi, establishes a structured framework for collaboration aimed at improving access to potable water for communities affected by the region’s ongoing water shortage crisis.
As part of the initial phase, an estimated N$6.4 million has been committed toward the drilling, development and installation of boreholes at priority sites. The broader intervention is projected at approximately N$22 million, subject to the mobilisation of additional funding. The partnership will further support the installation of water pumping systems, storage infrastructure and distribution networks, alongside technical assessments, stakeholder coordination and ongoing project monitoring to ensure transparency and efficiency.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening water security, safeguarding public health and building long-term resilience through sustainable and climate-responsive solutions.
