Following the launch of Namibia’s 2026–2035 National Strategy on Wildlife and Environmental Protection at the National Stakeholder Forum in Windhoek, hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), we’re pleased to share that the revised Strategy is now available online.

The Strategy sets out a shared national direction for strengthening wildlife and environmental protection over the next decade, responding to a changing conservation landscape and the interconnected challenges of environmental crime, natural resource management and sustainable development.

How long until it's business as usual?

It's the question every farmer, butcher and family is asking. The honest answer is that nobody can give a date yet, and anyone who does is guessing. But we can tell you how the road back works.

Recovery comes in two stages. At home, things reopen step by step. DVS lifts restrictions area by area as the evidence comes in, which is why the NCA was cleared first on 27 September. Each step depends on what the teams find, and a step can go backwards if new cases appear.

Exports take longer, and there's a reason. Our buyers in SADC, Europe, Norway, China and the US need proof, not promises. International rules require a clean record after the last case, and the clock restarts every time a new case is found. Even then, each country decides for itself when to buy from us again. DVS has already written to all our trading partners to start those conversations.

This is where you come in.

The virus doesn't decide how long this lasts. We do. Every gate kept shut, every roadblock respected and every sick animal reported brings Namibia closer to that day.

Don't forward rumours.

As September comes to an end, we celebrate the wildlife and wild places that make Namibia so extraordinary. 🌿🐘
