In order for email servers to function correctly, a lot of setups and programming needs to be performed. It is our finding that as many as 75% or even more of the emails servers around have not been configured correctly. Things like DNS Blacklisting, DMARC (Domain Message Authentication Reporting & Conformance), and SPF (Sender Policy Framework) configurations do matter in order to ensure that emails reach their final destination and that problems can be reported to the correct authorities.

Most email users don't have a clue about these things and they shouldn't have to. It is your email service providers responsibility to ensure that the server has been configured correctly. Unfortunately this is rarely the case.

Impulse Computer Services has made it a priority that all these aspects of hosting a MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) are in place and that our customer's email's and experience is a secure one. We will continue to monitor and do upgrades in order to ensure customer satisfaction.

We have updated the login Page for Impulse Computer Services Webmail. Besides a new display, visitors will now also be automatically redirected to the secure SSL page.

Besides being fully secure, we can boast multilingual support, including among others support for German, English, French, Italian and so many more. I will potentially also add Afrikaans by 2018.

Many more enhancements have been made in recent months and many more can be expected before year's end. To put it mildly. Impulse Computer Services has one of the best featured webmail clients in Namibia and even globally.

I just wanted to notify everybody that the new web-page for Impulse Computer Services is now online.

I thought you might find it interesting to know what we do as well as use our page as a small demonstration of my own web-design skills, which will only improve. It should be noted that I chose a less formal design which allows for better expression of what is possible whilst also making things more interesting. Technical websites can be quite boring if presented in a more formal fashion and this opted me to avoid this path.

Still, their remains much to be done and many revisions to be made. My design already went through 3 revisions based on my experience at the time. Future plans for 2017 include activating a web blog, FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section anjd a responsive version of Impulse Computer Services. As off December 2017 I will also concentrate my efforts in setting up database driven ticket system to make it easier for clients to reach us and track their status. I believe their might be a greater need for such systems in Namibia and globally.

Future development for early 2018 include PHP and Wordpress. PHP should be easy enough to master with existing programming skills such as C++ to name just one. Wordpress also appears simple enough. We believe it would be more. A sneak peak at both indicated that getting familiarized won't be to difficult. Both could be mastered in a very short time. The struggle would be gaining more in-depth experience and advanced techniques. As with HTML5 and CSS3, most of the time is spend on refining existing skills and we have learned something new every day.

Did you know that according to Cisco, 91% of cyber attacks in 2013 & 2014 were Java-based?

Oracle’s decision in early 2016 to eliminate its Java browser plugin has helped to make Java a less attractive web attack vector.

It's shameful and questionable why FNB (i.e. First National Bank) Namibia, who appeared surprised when I contacted them around March / April 2017, still hasn't stopped using browser plugins. Their recommendation instead was to either use Firefox ESR (i.e. Extended Support Release) or Internet Explorer. They promised they were working on an update which would be implemented in May. Surprise, surprise, we are in the middle of October, at least 5 months past the due date and still I am awaiting FNB to get rid of Java for their Online Internet Banking. According to CIsco, Java-based attacks are on the decline. Isn't it obvious why! Everybody stopped using Java plugins. The question on my mind is when FNB Namibia will wake up and smell the coffee?

As per their (FNB's) recommendations (Use Internet Explorer or use Firefox ESR) back then - No serious person uses Internet Explorer for anything other than downloading another web browser. IMHO Microsoft Edge, the replacement browser for Windows 10 is not much better. It's basically a Google Chrome rip-off. The only time I use it is if I have no other choice, which is rare. In my personal experience, Firefox (Standard release) is presently your best option if you are a heavy browser user. It' not perfect but it gets the job done. I specifically prefer it for its extensive plug-in support and reasonable lightweight use of Internet bandwidth. Bandwidth and memory usage is the primary reason I haven't been using Google Chrome for a while now. The only thing it has going for it is it's reasonably simple design and Google integration. I tried to get it to behave more like Firefox does by default. I prefer customizing my and my customer's computers to my needs and not me and my customer's needs to my or their computer's needs. Computers are there to serve us and not the other way round. Same goes for big companies, institutions and corporations. You are there to serve your clients and not the other way round.

I have got a similar incident with MTC at the moment which believes that it is OK to disrupt Internet data services between 00:00 and 00:30 each day, never mind the unsolicited spam they send their customers in the form of competitions and who cares what new ways of customer abuse they can dream up in future.
