Cosdec Tsumeb

Yesterday, 25 September 2026 ,Team Oshikoto, represented by women in uniform from the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) and Namibian Correctional Service (NCS), conducted an important sensitization session with 70 female trainees at COSDEC Tsumeb.The session focused on creating awareness and empowering trainees on important issues affecting women and young people, including:
🔹 Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
🔹 R**e prevention, reporting procedures and support services
🔹 The importance of taking training seriously and appreciating educational opportunities
🔹 The Code of Conduct
🔹 Informers and reporting mechanisms
🔹 Proper use of suggestion boxes
🔹 Alcohol abuse and its consequences
🔹 Risks associated with multiple sexual partners
🔹 Risks and legal implications of taking and sharing n**e pictures
The trainees actively participated in the session, asked questions and engaged positively with the presenters.
COSDEC appreciates Team Oshikoto, NAMPOL and NCS for taking the time to educate, empower and encourage our female trainees. Together, we continue to promote a safe, responsible and supportive learning environment.

COSDEC Tsumeb hosted its Heritage Day on Friday, 18 September 2026, under the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage, Embracing Our Diversity and Preserving Our Culture.”
Speaking at the event, Centre Manager Mr Ntema Sihela highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating cultural heritage. He encouraged trainees to embrace their different cultural backgrounds, respect one another’s traditions, and take pride in their identity.
Mr Sihela further encouraged trainees to learn from one another and to ensure that cultural knowledge and traditions are passed on to future generations. He emphasised that diversity should be viewed as a strength that brings people together and promotes unity and mutual respect.
The Heritage Day featured cultural presentations and traditional attire, with trainees showcasing aspects of their respective cultures and traditions. The event provided an opportunity for trainees and staff to celebrate Namibia’s rich cultural diversity while strengthening unity within the COSDEC Tsumeb community.

Yesterday, 17 July 2026, COSDEC Tsumeb, in collaboration with the University of Namibia (UNAM) and the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) Primary Health Care Division, hosted a meaningful Mental Health Community Engagement Activity under the theme:

“Beyond the Symptoms: Addressing the Root Causes of Mental and Physical Health Challenges.”

The session brought together health professionals and academics who shared valuable knowledge on mental health, physical wellbeing, and the importance of early intervention and community support.
