JCB - The Introspective Intellect

It’s been 13 years since I married my best friend. What a crazy trip it’s been.

Ash and I met back in 2008, the same week I got my throat cut. After that incident, sleeping didn’t come easy, so I’d spend my nights bored and alone scrolling through music forums. We ended up meeting on a forum for artists and just started talking. The time difference between Malaysia and Canada worked out perfectly... my excuse was that it was the middle of the night and nobody else was awake to talk to… I’m still not sure what her excuse was.

We kept that friendship going online for years, building a real foundation before I finally got the opportunity to travel to Malaysia. I spent a month there with Ash, came back to Canada, and less than a month later made the decision to leave everything behind and head back overseas.

She’s the only person I’d travel the world for. And honestly, at that point in my life, she was probably the only person who could’ve given me the confidence to do something that big. A few years earlier, my anxiety was so bad that even leaving the house could feel overwhelming. Somehow she made the world feel a lot less intimidating.

We had to move fast and get married if we wanted to stay together. A little unconventional maybe, but easily the biggest and most rewarding risk we’ve ever taken.
