Phayan

[中文/en] 塤（xun）是中國最古老的樂器之一，擁有超過六千年的歷史。它起源於新石器時代，這件古老的陶製吹奏樂器最初被用於祭祀與儀式，後來逐漸融入中國傳統宮廷音樂與文人雅樂中。

傳統的塤多以陶土製成，形似橢圓或鵝卵形的器皿。演奏時，透過吹奏頂部的小孔，並以手指按住音孔來改變音高。其深沉、溫潤而帶有泥土氣息的音色，使它在眾多吹奏樂器中展現出獨特的頻率，常喚起寧靜、內觀，以及與自然連結的感受。

我的塤是一件以竹根製作的特殊版本，而非較為常見的陶製塤。這種罕見的材質賦予樂器獨特的共鳴，使古老的塤的聲音與竹子本身自然質樸的特性之間，形成一種微妙而獨特的對話。

The xun (塤) is one of China’s oldest musical instruments, with a history dating back more than six thousand years. Emerging during the Neolithic period, this ancient vessel flute was originally used in ritual and ceremonial contexts before becoming part of traditional Chinese court and scholarly music.

Traditionally made from clay and shaped like an egg or oval vessel, the xun is played by blowing across a small opening while covering finger holes to create different tones. Its deep, warm, and earthy sound gives it a unique character among wind instruments, often evoking a sense of stillness, contemplation, and connection with nature.

My xun is a singular variation crafted from bamboo rather than the more common clay. This unusual material gives the instrument a distinctive resonance and a unique dialogue between the ancient voice of the xun and the natural qualities of bamboo.

AIKYA — meaning “oneness” or “unity” in Sanskrit — is a musical journey that weaves together moments of stillness and resonance through the unique and healing essence of the fujara. Recorded acoustically in Japan during the slow summer of 2025, it reflects the meeting point between the inner and outer worlds, where sound becomes a bridge for contemplation and connection. Through an eclectic range of organic tones and spacious melodies, Phayan’s debut album evokes a sense of presence and wholeness, inviting you to experience the quiet harmony that flows within all things.

[en/中文] Dear friends – I will have the pleasure to attend creative market on July 5, where I will share several spontaneous sound healing sessions with visitors through the grounding and soothing echoes of my fujara.

#聲音療癒

Dear friends – I will have the pleasure of attending the 2026 edition of BuMI Festival at (Penang, Malaysia), where I will offer the healing and powerful echoes of the fujara through several sessions, including an immersive sound healing experience in collaboration with in the heart of the gardens.

The fujara (loosely translated: “fuu” = an onomatopoeic imitation of the blowing wind, “jar” = spring) is a traditional, large overtone flute that originated in central Slovakia. Once a pastoral instrument associated with shepherds, it is renowned for its deep, resonant tones and imposing size (ranging from 1.6 to 2 meters). It produces a haunting, meditative sound built on natural harmonics, with only three finger holes used to guide the melodies. The fujara has become a symbol of Slovak cultural identity and was recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
