Perhaps Penang's most popular coastal promenade, Gurney Drive is a haven of shopping, hawker food and restaurants.
Initially named the New Coast Road upon completion in 1936, it was renamed after former British High Commissioner to Malaya, Sir Henry Gurney, after his assasination in 1952.
Some might remember its pristine waters and sandy beaches full of siput back in the 70s and 80s, but it's a mudflat now.

First built in 1897, the Church Street Pier was once the main landing point for sampans, steamships and small cruising vessels. And prior to the construction of the Penang Ferry Terminal, cars embarked and disembarked here.
Now refurbished and repurposed, it houses F&B outlets and a nightspot.
