Boiler tube scaling is the accumulation of hardened mineral deposits, such as calcium, magnesium, iron, aluminum, and silica, on the inner surfaces of boiler tubes.

It forms when these minerals, initially dissolved in the water, reach their solubility limit due to the heat of the boiler and precipitate onto the tubes, reducing efficiency, increasing fuel costs, and potentially leading to dangerous overheating and catastrophic tube failure.

Prevention involves water treatment, while removal typically requires acid cleaning.
