Big Bang
Allah created every living thing from water .
What if the Big Bang was not the birth of everything, but the funeral of a universe that came before ours?
That is the startling idea championed by Roger Penrose, the British mathematical physicist who won a Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking work on black holes. He calls his theory conformal cyclic cosmology, and it reimagines the entire history of existence.
In the standard picture, time begins at the Big Bang. Ask what came before and physics tends to shrug, because the question may not even make sense. Penrose refuses to accept that dead end. He argues the universe moves through endless chapters he calls aeons, each one beginning with its own big bang and ending in the cold, empty far future of the previous one.
His reasoning is strange and clever. Fast forward trillions of years and the universe becomes almost nothing but black holes, which themselves slowly evaporate away into faint radiation. Eventually there is no matter left, nothing to measure size or time with. Penrose argues that a nearly empty, infinitely stretched cosmos becomes mathematically identical to the hot, dense, tiny state of a brand new big bang. The end of one universe smoothly becomes the birth of the next.
He even claims to see fingerprints of the previous aeon in our sky, faint circular patterns in the cosmic background radiation that he says were left by black holes from the universe before ours.
Here is the honest part. Most cosmologists are not convinced. The mainstream view still favors cosmic inflation, and many scientists dispute Penrose's claimed evidence, arguing those patterns are just noise. This is a bold minority theory, not accepted fact.
Still, it reframes the deepest question we have. Maybe there was no absolute beginning. Maybe the universe simply keeps dying and being reborn, forever.
Do you find it more comforting to think the universe had one single beginning, or that it cycles endlessly with no start at all?
