(871450-M) The number of courtyards for each of these houses is relative to the length of the property.

Built in the late 19th century, Seven Terraces is a contiguous row of Anglo-Chinese terrace houses located just behind the Goddess of Mercy Temple. The row of houses today is a sterling splendid example of an adaptive reuse of heritage buildings that is of low density and low impact. Historically, these houses were a redevelopment of the original Lee Kongsi building circa 1893, in a period of time

Some places are more than just beautiful buildings.

They are stories waiting to be passed on.
Today, I brought my kids to Seven Terraces - Penang Not just to admire its beauty, but to teach them about our heritage, our culture, and the memories that shaped us.

One special thing I shared with them was the meaning of “Kam Cheng” - the traditional Peranakan porcelain chamber pot that symbolises prosperity, family values, and everyday life from generations ago. What may seem like a simple antique today once carried deep meaning in a Peranakan home.

Watching my children listen with curiosity reminded me that heritage is not only preserved in museums or architecture…
It lives through conversations, stories, and moments like these.

Years may pass.
The kids will grow up.
The world will continue to change.
But the memories we create together, walking through these timeless halls, learning where we come from, and appreciating the beauty of our culture....will always stay with us.
Because heritage is not just about remembering the past.
It’s about making sure the next generation never forgets it.

At Seven Terraces, every antique piece carries a story from the past... Quietly preserving the beauty, craftsmanship, and heritage of old Penang homes.

One of the most remarkable pieces found within the mansion is the traditional Hokkien Kim Hua Cupboard, a rare and beautifully handcrafted bridal cupboard once prepared as part of a traditional Chinese wedding dowry.

The Kim Hua cupboard symbolising prosperity, happiness, fertility, and a harmonious marriage for the newlyweds. Richly adorned with intricate carvings, auspicious motifs, and delicate craftsmanship, these pieces were not only functional furniture but also important symbols of family blessings and celebration.

Today, this stunning heirloom continues to live on within Seven Terraces, where heritage is carefully preserved and celebrated. A stay at Seven Terraces is not only about experiencing a heritage hotel, but also stepping into a living gallery of stories, traditions, and treasured antiques from another era.
