See you at Straits City this weekend!

On 26 September 2026, Program SDG Bersasar Peringkat Tempatan 2026 (NCER) brought the Sustainable Development Goals closer to everyday life by connecting sustainability with local heritage, environmental stewardship, and livelihood opportunities. Held alongside Festival Kota Warisan Perai at Kampung Terus, Penanti, Seberang Perai, the programme created a space for communities to better understand how sustainable development can be reflected in the places they live, work and grow.

As a strategic partner alongside the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), Think City supports efforts that strengthen communities while preserving local heritage and the environment. Through the Seberang Perai Small Towns Grants Programme, initiatives such as Kota Warisan Perai help create opportunities for community-based tourism and local livelihoods while encouraging the continued appreciation of Seberang Perai’s cultural and environmental assets.

Kota Warisan Perai is implemented by NL Travel & Tours, with support from the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, the Penang State Government and Seberang Perai City Council.

Guests included Deputy Minister of Economy Dato’ Sri Mohd Shahar bin Abdullah; Penang EXCO Dato’ Rashidi Zinol; Seberang Perai Tengah District Officer Dato’ Kamarul Haizal bin Koderat; and NCIA Chief Executive Dato’ Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan.

Creative Weekend Penang 2026 to spotlight Seberang Perai’s growing creative economy CREATIVE Weekend Penang 2026 is expected to bring together about 300 artists, creative practitioners, entrepreneurs, community groups and members of the public in a two-day programme aimed at strengthening Penang’s creative economy and promoting Seberang Perai as an emerging creative hub. Think City mourns the passing of Allahyarhamah Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and extends its heartfelt condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the family and all Malaysians who share in this loss.

Born in 1926, she became one of the first Malay women doctors in the country and went on to devote her life to the service of the nation. As a doctor, she worked to advance maternal and child health, immunisation and health education, bringing care to families that had little access to it. Later, as the spouse to Tun Dr Mahathir as 4th and 7th Prime Minister, she carried that commitment to the national and international stage, advocating for the welfare of women and children, adult literacy and drug abuse prevention. Her work, and the values that shaped it, embody the conviction that cities draw strength from the wellbeing of its people and that lasting change begins with those it is meant to serve.

Her compassion lives on in the communities she served and the causes she championed, and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

How does culture-based development strengthen destinations, local economies and places?

This World Tourism Day, we're asking a different question: not how many visitors Malaysia can attract but how much value each visit can create for the places and the people behind it.

Despite welcoming 25 million tourists, receipts per arrival remain low against regional peers such as Singapore and Bangkok. Malaysia holds a wide and rich variety of assets including landmark monuments, historical architecture, archaeological sites, traditional trades and cultural diversity. The gap isn't in what we have – it's in the connectivity of these assets to the wider ecosystem.
