Nurses Week is winding down. 🤍
The flowers will wilt. The free meals will end. The thank-you posts will fade from our feeds.
But here’s what I hope stays with you:
You are not just a nurse who shows up at the bedside. You are a knowledge worker. A decision-maker. A clinical problem-solver whose pattern recognition is exactly what healthcare AI, informatics, and innovation desperately need right now.
This week was the celebration.
Next week is the decision.
What are you building next? What skill are you adding? Whose seat at the table are you preparing to take?
Your future isn’t waiting for permission. It’s already begun — the only question is whether you’re going to lead it or watch it happen to you.

Twenty years ago, technology happened to nursing.
Not with it.
I was charting on paper.
Watching systems get built without us in the room.
Today I’m a board-certified nurse informaticist and Director of Clinical Informatics.
I help shape how AI gets governed in healthcare.
And I didn’t get here by becoming “more.”
I got here by recognizing what I already had:
• Twenty years of clinical judgment.
• Workflow intuition built one patient at a time.
• The knowing of what it feels like when a system fails a patient at 3am.
That’s the part technology cannot replicate.
That’s the part every healthcare AI tool is missing without us.
Happy Nursing Informatics Day to every nurse already doing this work.

The stories I almost lost.
My grandmother knew the names of every plant on the hill behind her house. Which leaves stopped a fever. Which roots calmed a stomach. Which berries the children could not touch.
I was small. I was not paying attention.
She is gone now. The hill is still there.
The names of the plants are not.
Nobody tells you that when you lose her, you also lose:
The version of yourself only she remembered.
The recipes nobody wrote down.
The answers to questions you did not know you needed to ask.
So I made something.
