Time to officially meet Rosa and Pedro 🐕 🐶 ❤️
Yesterday Andrea took these 2 babes to our vet Playa Pet Tulum. They are pretty anemic and have anaplasmosis from the disgusting tick infestation, and of course internal parasites. It could be worse that's for sure.
We have high hopes for these little fighters 🙏 They are now on the road to recovery with quality puppy food, medications, and lots of love. Before long, they’ll be healthy and ready to find their forever homes.
Rosa (black and white) weighs just 9 kg, and Pedro only 7 kg. Our vet estimates they are around 5–6 months old, so we expect them to grow into smaller-medium sized dogs when fully grown. ❤️
More updates to come - we aren't out of the weeds yet, and are super grateful Andrea is caring for them at her sanctuary in quarantine.
If one of these pups pulls at your heart and you'd like to foster / adopt, please reach out!
Thank you for always helping us help them 🙏 🐶

A couple of days ago, I received a message about two puppies living in the street in one of the invasiones here in Tulum. Could I help?
And honestly… my first thoughts were heavy ones.
The first was the financial reality. Rescuing Mama Perdita and her six puppies back in December has cost thousands and is STILL costing us today. Personally, I am exhausted financially trying to keep up with rescue expenses.
The second thought was this: I cannot leave these puppies there. Especially this little boy. He is not going to survive on the street.
And then comes the third reality every rescuer understands… where do they go once they are healthy? Right now, I still have three puppies from the December rescue in foster care in Toronto — not adopted yet. One puppy remains in Tulum. Antonio Colitas will likely soon come here to the Sanctuary live out his days. Mama Perdita thankfully has an adoption waiting for her, but she still has three months of heartworm treatment ahead. Kia, the white shepherd mix, still needs a future too. And Vaquera here at the Sanctuary was supposed to come with me to Chicago this summer.
Sometimes it feels overwhelming trying to hold all of these lives together.
But while I was spiraling about what to do, my friend Andrea said I'll go get them.
She has quarantine space at her sanctuary in Tulum, and without hesitation she stepped in like the hero she is. I told her I would cover the veterinary care, and together we will work on finding these babies homes.
So thankfully, these two puppies are now safe. ❤️
Their mama is still in the neighborhood, and we are hoping she can be caught and sterilized during next weekend’s campaign in the same area.
But the reality is that donations have been extremely low, and another very large vet bill is coming soon. Any donations right now would help tremendously and will go directly toward the veterinary care of these two puppies. Anything beyond that will help cover the ongoing expenses for dogs already rescued — dogs still in boarding, treatment, recovery, and community outreach cases I haven’t even had time to post about yet.
Thank you to everyone still standing with us 🐶❤ Vet appointment today at 2🙏

Yesterday was a big day for our little jungle rescue family. ❤️
Star and Zoe arrived in Toronto where they’ll begin the next chapter of their lives thanks to so many incredible people. Huge thank you to Kathy for being their flight angel, to Loyal Rescue, and to fosters Amy and Kathy for opening your hearts and homes to these girls. Thanks to Juani Goicoechea
and Jenni C Yyz
for transport in Cancun and Toronto, and Joanne Johnson for raising these babes.
It’s hard to believe these puppies are the same tiny babies we rescued back in December, when they weren’t even two weeks old and were struggling to survive in the jungle alongside their mama.
Speaking of mama… she officially started her heartworm treatment last week. 🙏
That now leaves us with one sister still in boarding — sweet Chloe — who is also looking for her forever home. And these two beautiful girls AND sister Gracie are in Toronto area now available for adoption as well. If you’re in the Greater Toronto Area and interested in adopting, please reach out to me for more information.
We are also desperately looking for fosters and adopters in Toronto and now even in the Chicago area (come August).
To be honest, everything has been a little overwhelming. There is so much happening behind the scenes that I’ve almost shut down a little and haven’t even been asking for donations the way I normally would. But the reality is that boarding, vetting, transport, food, and outreach costs are still piling up.
A huge thank you to our monthly donors who continue helping keep us afloat — especially helping cover food for the sanctuary dogs. Without you, none of this would be possible.
Right now, we truly need help covering ongoing boarding and veterinary expenses, along with several other rescue situations I haven’t even had the chance to properly post about yet. I promise I’ll catch up soon.
Thank you to everyone who continues supporting, sharing, fostering, donating, transporting, and believing in these dogs. Please help us share these girls so they can finally find the forever homes they deserve. ❤️

It has been brutally hot here lately, with the sun beating down nonstop on the cabin and the shelter. When the rain finally came, it honestly felt amazing. The dogs were thrilled. Me too. For about five minutes. 😅
Because with rain comes mud. Endless mud.
For the last three days it has been nonstop cleaning, mopping, wiping paws, shaking out sheers and blankets (and I still don't have a washing machine 😩), trying to keep dogs outside who absolutely believe they belong inside. And let’s be honest… they usually win. Every single time 😂
I’m exhausted, covered in paw prints, and somehow still hoping for more rain today because the heat was unbearable. Life at the sanctuary is never boring.
So now I need opinions… who do you think wins the “Muddiest Dog / Dirtiest Dog” award out of these fools? 😂🐾
Drop your votes below.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY DOG MOMS! 🐕 ❤️

Gracie 💛🐶
Gracie is one of the six puppies born deep in the jungle back in December. We stepped in when they were only a few weeks old, and after months of care, this beautiful girl has finally made her way to Canada 🇨🇦
Now 5 months old and about 13 kilos, Gracie is truly the easiest, sweetest puppy you could ask for. She is loving, gentle, and incredibly social. She adores her people, loves other dogs, is great with cats, and honestly thinks everyone — even birds — should be her friend 🤗
She’s the kind of puppy who just melts into your life and your heart.
Gracie is currently in the Ottawa Ontario area and is looking for her forever family. Could that be you?
And if you can’t adopt, please share. Somewhere out there is the person who will see this post and instantly know she’s theirs ❤️
Please message for adoption information!
Thank you.

When I asked for help in my last post, so many of you showed up ❤️. Donations came in, kind messages came in, support came in — and I want you to know how deeply grateful I am. Truly. You helped me breathe for a moment, and you reminded me I’m not doing this alone.
Yesterday I paid over $8,000 in bills — and that doesn’t even include my overdue balance at Playa Pet Tulum. I’m now at the point where I need to launch a GoFundMe just to get back above water.
One of the biggest ongoing expenses is boarding.
These six puppies were fast-tracked months ago: fully vetted, vaccinated, sterilized, ready to travel. They were supposed to leave in March. Yet here we are over a month later, and half of them are still stuck in boarding simply because I cannot find enough fosters or flight angels 😔. CHLOE, ZOE AND STAR NEED YOU!!
This is where I urgently need help:
✈️ Immediate flight angel to Toronto — I already have a foster waiting now for one lucky puppy to get out.
✈️🏡 Flight angels and/or fosters in Toronto for the remaining puppies.
✈️🏡 Flight angels and/or fosters in Vancouver as well.
Summer airline embargoes are approaching fast, which can make transporting dogs nearly impossible for months. Time matters right now.
I’m being honest when I say I’m at my wit’s end. It never used to be this hard to move good, healthy, ready dogs into homes and fosters. And when dogs get stuck, costs explode — making it harder and harder to keep rescuing the next ones who need help.
If you can foster, travel, share this post, or donate, please reach out. If you know someone flying to Toronto or Vancouver soon, please send them my way 🙏 🐶 ❤️
These puppies are ready. I just need the missing links to get them there.
THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS HELPING US HELP THEM! ⭐

I wish I could say I truly took a vacation. I didn’t. Rescue follows me everywhere.
Even while away, I was answering messages, trying to help dogs in crisis, guiding people to vets, and trying to save lives through a phone screen. One puppy died of parvo after help came too late. Another is still fighting.
Antonio is still in treatment. Perdida starts HW treatment next week. Kia is looking for her forever home.
There is no clocking out in rescue. No real day off when animals are suffering.
While I should have been resting, I was awake calculating boarding costs, vet bills, transport fees, and how many more days I can keep paying for dogs with nowhere to go.
Some good news: Penny was adopted 🥳, opening a space for one sibling to go to Toronto. But I need a flight angel to get that puppy there and 2 more of her siblings 😔
I also need committed fosters for the other two puppies. Right now I am paying every single day for dogs with nowhere else to go. Every peso spent on boarding is money that could be going to sterilization, food, and emergency rescues.
I need help immediately. If even a few people send a small donation today, it would take real pressure off and buy me time to keep helping them.
I am tired in every possible way. But I am still here. Still trying. Still fighting for them.
If you can donate, foster, adopt, be a flight angel, or share — please do it now.
PayPal / Venmo in bio or Facebook About section 🙏🐶 ❤️.

CONFESSION: rescue doesn’t stop… even when I do (or try to 😅)
After weeks of stress, I finally made it to Florida Thursday night. Two short flights that somehow felt like a marathon… but I’m here.
I got my hair done (thank you to my niece’s magic ✨), saw family, and spent time with sweet Perry (Periwinkle 💙), who is living his best life right now, even if our time with him is limited.
Back on the mountain in Chiapas, my partner stepped in and was immediately mobbed by 15 very happy dogs 🐾
—and yes, he brought Walter Brown with him (one of our own), so "the band is back together" 😂
So yes… I’m technically on a break.
But rescue doesn’t really work like that.
At the same time:
– 3 puppies still waiting for their freedom rides north
– Perdita finished her 30 days of pre-treatment and starts heartworm treatment soon
– Antonio (Colitas) keeps fighting 💪
– And of course… a new little one in the mix
So while I try to breathe a little and be present…
I still urgently need fosters or adopters in Toronto or Vancouver.
👉 Thinking about fostering? This is your moment
👉 Know someone ready to adopt? Send them our way
👉 Sharing this helps more than you know
Because even when I step away for a minute…
this never really stops. ❤️🐾
