Unfortunately he passed away in Belize not allowed to return due to his immigration Status when visiting family in 2012.
His Cousin USMC Roman Sabal
(Former Deported Veteran) will receive the flag and take it to his family in Belize. The 82nd Airborne Honor Guard and myself will render Honors for Thomas,
Thomas has already been laid to rest any prayers and support are welcome

(Note we do not celebrate “Thanksgiving” for pilgrims, etc. For some this Holiday is not celebrated. )We would like to provide our Deported veterans a meal that reminds them of home.

Two funerals in one month. Two heartbreaks no family should ever endure.

In South Texas, the Melendez family is living a nightmare — first losing their father, Natividad, on October 4th after a sudden lung collapse… and now losing his son, Omar, just weeks later to a heart attack at only 47 years old.

Omar was a Marine who served his country for 22 years.

A hardworking AC tech and welder in Mission. A son, a brother, a father — gone far too soon.

And now their mother, 70, is grieving both her husband and her son — her world shattered in a matter of days.

They are heartbroken. And they’re trying to find a way to mourn while drowning in funeral costs and worry.

If you’ve walked this road — losing so much, so fast — you know this kind of pain leaves you breathless.

What brings comfort? What words help? What acts of kindness carried you through?

Hello-



On Tuesday, the Board will be discussing Item 8: Support for Veteran Service Recognition Act by Congressman Mark Takano https://file.lacounty.gov/SDSInter/bos/supdocs/208445.pdf. The motion directs the County Legislative Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations branch to support the bill. It also requests that the County’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Office of Immigrant Affairs to work together to provide legal services to our undocumented veterans.



We need in-person speakers and or callers to support the motion. Please let me know if you will call-in or be in-person.
