In the final week of May, we started to receive reports of monarch adults and eggs in Saskatchewan.

Since the start of the 21st century, it's just the third year that we received at least one monarch report in Saskatchewan before June, joining 2012 and 2024.

We also received a number of reports from Manitoba in late May, marking the fourth straight year monarchs have been spotted there in May.

Some monarchs appear to have arrived early this spring, but if you haven't seen one yet, even if you're further south, there's a lot of summer yet to come. Wherever you're located, when you see your first monarch, don't forget to report your sighting to Journey North!

It´s 50 years after canadian scientist and wife Norah, found the site in Mexico after tagging butterflies by hand for years!!!
Today, using modern tracking technology, the black/orange butterfly is rewriting the routes on the map of North America and giving answers to questions about the millenial migration of the species!

🦋 Por primera vez en la historia, 500 mariposas Monarca viajarán desde Canadá y Estados Unidos hacia los bosques del Estado de México y Michoacán portando transmisores que permitirán estudiar su migración más a detalle.

El dispositivo, conocido como BlūMorpho, pesa apenas 60 miligramos, equivalente a un grano de arroz, y fue diseñado por la empresa Cellular Tracking Technologies (CTT).

De acuerdo con Rocío Treviño, coordinadora del Programa Correo Real, la primera mariposa marcada cruzó a México por Coahuila, tras recorrer 2 mil 362 kilómetros durante 37 días desde su liberación el 13 de septiembre en Long Point, Ontario, Canadá.

Cada transmisor, de 2.4 GHz, tiene un costo de 175 dólares, más un plan de datos para transmitir información en tiempo real.
