Hearing vs Obeying

IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO HEAR THE WORD

We listen to sermons.
We read the Bible.
We hear the truth…

But are we living it?

📖 “Do not merely listen to the word… do what it says.” — James 1:22

Closeness to God does not come from:

Knowledge
Listening
Information

👉 It comes from obedience.

You can know the Word… and still feel far from God.

Why?

Because God responds to obedience, not just hearing.

📖 “If you love me, keep my commands.” — John 14:15

🛠️ How to grow:

Apply one verse daily
Obey even when it’s hard
Be consistent

👉 Small obedience leads to deep intimacy.

🙏 Prayer
Lord, help me not just to hear Your Word, but to live it daily. Amen.

Pride destroys.
Humility restores.
Choose wisely.

✨ WORD OF THE WEEK: PRIDE (EGO & JEALOUSY) ✨

Pride is not always loud.
Sometimes… it is hidden in the heart, even while we serve God.

The truth is — everyone struggles with it.
Pride, ego, jealousy… they don’t disappear just because we are in church.

📖 “Pride goes before destruction…” — Proverbs 16:18

Pride can come from things that look good:

The number of years we have been in church

Our position or responsibility

Our talents and gifts

Our experience

But we must remember:

📖 “What do you have that you did not receive?” — 1 Corinthians 4:7

Everything we have comes from God.

🔍 How does pride show itself?

In our words → when we defend, compare, or criticize

In our attitude → when we feel offended or superior

In our actions → when we seek recognition or control

Pride is often revealed in our reactions.

⚠️ Does pride affect others?
Yes.

📖 “Where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder…” — James 3:16

Pride breaks unity.
It hurts people.
It creates division—even in the church.

🌿 The solution: Humility & Self-Control

📖 “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” — James 4:6

📖 “Self-control…” — Galatians 5:22–23

Humility is not weakness.
It is strength under control.

🛠️ How do we overcome pride?

Recognise it
📖 “Search me, O God…” — Psalm 139:23

Be willing to remove it
Stop justifying it. Surrender it.

Pray about it (personally)
📖 “Humble yourselves before the Lord…” — James 4:10

Seek help if needed
Healing comes through accountability.

💡 Final thought:
Our capacity, our talent, even our service…
can become a source of pride if we are not careful.

But grace flows where there is humility.

🙏 Prayer
Lord, search my heart. Remove every pride, ego, and jealousy. Teach me humility and help me to walk in Your Spirit daily. Amen.

Drawing closer to God is not only about prayer and worship—it is also reflected in how we live and how we treat others. A heart that seeks God will naturally desire to do good, to walk in love, humility, and integrity.

Jesus said:

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart.”
(John 7:38, principle aligned with Jesus’ teaching)

As we grow closer to God, He shapes our character. Our words become kinder, our actions more intentional, and our lives a testimony of His grace. This year, let us pursue closeness with God and allow that relationship to make us better people—at home, at work, and in our communities.

🙏 Drawing closer to God, living out His goodness.

20/01/2026

As we step into this new year, our desire and prayer is simple:
To draw closer to God.
Not through perfection, but through relationship.
Not by rushing, but by abiding.

Jesus reminds us:

“Remain in Me, and I will remain in you.”
(John 15:4)

This year, may we choose closeness over noise, time with God over distractions, and intimacy with Him over routine. As we remain in Him, He shapes us, strengthens us, and leads us day by day.

Let this be a year of deeper roots, stronger faith, and a closer walk with God. 🙏

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23

This week, let us be intentional about what we allow into our hearts.
Protect your peace. Guard your joy. Watch over your thoughts.
Because whatever fills your heart will shape your words, your decisions, and your destiny.

May God strengthen us to keep our hearts aligned with His truth and His love.
Have a blessed week!

24/11/2025

This week, be reminded that the God who created you also knows exactly what you need. 🌿

When you feel tired, uncertain, or overwhelmed, trust the One who formed you with purpose and love.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…” — Isaiah 40:31

May His strength lift you, may His peace surround you, and may His grace carry you through every moment. Amen
