The Salem Community Development Group is proud to announce the return of De Fliers for the Easter Monday Road Race!

De Fliers was the original name of a group of men who competed for Salem, back when the Easter Monday Road Relay was a full round‑the‑island race. Now that the race covers only half the island, we’ve revived the legacy with a new generation of athletes under the name De Fliers2; and they have made Salem proud by bringing the TROPHY home!

Special appreciation to our reserve Leon Williams, and our dedicated coach Peter Ryan (Pete).

We also want to acknowledge two amazing ladies who played an essential role in training and supporting the team: Althea Allen and Barbara Bass, valued associates of the Salem Community Development Group.

As part of the Salem Community Development Group, we were honored to participate in this community sporting event, and we look forward to supporting many more in the future.

Easter Monday Road Race is here, and the Salem Community Development Group is proud to announce our participation. Our team of six dedicated runners has been training hard for weeks, and we’re excited to see them compete.

We invite everyone to come out, show your support, and wear your dark blue as we cheer on our athletes. Let’s stand behind our men as they give their all on the course. Let’s go, Team Salem — De Fliers 2!

A special reminder: Salem was home to the original De Fliers, and we are honored to have one of the original runners coaching our team today. His guidance and experience have truly shaped our preparation.

It’s been a challenging journey, but we are nearing the finish line — and no matter the results, we have already won.
