My father loved everything modern. Telephone, cars, audio equipment, fridge. Surely we were the lucky ones. Often the neighbours came by to use the phone.

ရန်ကုန်နည်းပညာတက္ကသိုလ် RIT (ယခု YTU) ကို သက် ဆိုသောသူတစ်ဦး (ဘယ်အောက်ဖက်တွင်လက်မှတ်ပါသည်) ကပုံတူရေးဆွဲခဲ့သောပို့စ်ကတ်

YTU ဟုယခုနာမည်ပေးထားသော ရန်ကုန်နည်းပညာဟာသမိုင်းကြောင်းရှည်ကြီးရှိပါတယ်။ ကိုလိုနီခေတ်မှာ ရန်ကုန်တက္ကသိုလ်အတွင်းကဌာနလေးတစ်ခုအနေနဲ့စတင်ခဲ့ပြီး ၁၉၆၁ ခုနှစ်မှာတော့ BIT (Burma Institute of Technology) ဟုနာမည်ပြောင်းခဲ့ကာ နောင်သုံးနှစ်ကြာ ၁၉၆၄ ခုနှစ်တွင် RIT (Rangoon Institute of Technology) ဟုပြန်လည်အမည်ပြောင်းလဲခဲ့သည်။ ၁၉၈၈ခုနှစ်တွင် RIT ကျောင်းဝင်း၌ ကျောင်းသားများနှင့်ရဲများပဋိပက္ခဖြစ်ပွားမှုက ၈၈အရေးခင်းကိုစတင်ရန်တွန်းအားပေးခဲ့သည်။ ယခုအခါတွင် တက္ကသိုလ်ကို YTU ဟုအမည်ပေးကာ ဖွင့်လှစ်လျက်ရှိပြီး နှစ်စဉ်တက္ကသိုလ်ဝင်တန်းစာမေးပွဲတွင် အမှတ်ကောင်းသူကျောင်းသားအယောက် ၂၅ဝကိုသာလက်ခံသည်။

What is currently called as YTU (Yangon Technological University) has a long history. Tracing its establishment in British Colonial times as a small department at Rangoon (now Yangon) University, the University was named BIT (Burma Institute of Technology) in 1961 and subsequently named RIT (Rangoon Institute of Technology) 3 years later in 1964. In 1988, the RIT campus was involved in a riot with students and police which eventually led to the infamous 88 uprising in Myanmar. Nowadays, renamed as YTU, the University only accepts 250 students annually based on their scores in annual University Entrance Examination.

This picture was reversed from the negative provided by Teza Aung. It was taken by his grandfather U Kywat who ran Asia Studio in Yangon. U Kywat was one of the most prominent photographers of his time.

ဖော်ပြပါပုံဟာ တေဇအောင်မှ ပေးအပ်ထားသော negative ကို ပြန်လည်ပုံဖော်ထားခြင်းဖြစ်ပါသည်။ တေဇအောင်၏ အဖိုး ဦးကျော့ဟာ တခေတ်တခါက ထင်ရှားသော ဓာတ်ပုံဆရာကြီးတဦးဖြစ်ပြီး Asia Studio ကို ရန်ကုန်မှာ ဖွင့်လှစ်ခဲ့သောသူလည်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

I am not quite sure when this photo was taken. I guess in the 1920s or 30s.
It is fascinating to see Burmese elephant and Burmese armour.
