How do we connect billions of IoT devices without billions of batteries?

This challenge drives IoT-ZERO Horizon Europe SNS JU Project (Secure Event-Driven TN–NTN Connectivity and Sensing for Near-Zero-Energy IoT), Europe research initiative dedicated to shaping the future of sustainable, ultra-low-power connectivity.

Over the next three years, LMT is collaborating with international partners to rethink energy efficiency in IoT through dedicated research into:

• battery-less sensing and energy harvesting,
• ambient backscatter communications,
• ultra-low-power hardware and communication protocols,
• AI for energy-aware operation,
• and seamless integration with future 6G terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.

Our goal extends beyond incremental energy savings - we aim to lay the foundation for 6G-ready, zero-energy connectivity, fundamentally transforming how devices capture data, communicate, and operate when power is severely constrained.

As an LMT IoT customer, Epona AI Labs is using LMT IoT Shortcut and Infineon Technologies AG edge AI to innovate predictive maintenance for train fleets 🚆

Instead of building complex backend infrastructure from scratch, they chose an integrated foundation to keep their engineering focus entirely on their core acoustic algorithms.

LMT takes a seat at the table shaping Europe’s 6G future. 🇪🇺📡

We are proud to announce that we have been selected for the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) Stakeholders Group. Alongside Orange and OTE Group of Companies (HTO), LMT is one of only three telecom operators appointed to this key 16-member European advisory body.

Together with global leaders like Airbus Defence and Space, Ericsson, Nokia, and ETSI, we will advise on the EU’s digital connectivity priorities, helping shape the 6G roadmap, technological autonomy, and the EU budget framework for 2028–2034.

Represented by Iveta Cīrule and Jānis Grēviņš, LMT brings real-world network operational insights and active R&D leadership – including key initiatives like Shield 6G (cyber-resilience) and IoT Zero (sustainable zero-energy IoT) – to the continent’s strategic agenda.

At this year’s Sarunu festivāls LAMPA, our LMT Mobility Data Analytics Platform was deployed for the first time to map and analyze human mobility patterns.

By leveraging privacy-compliant, anonymised big data, we unlocked high-precision insights – from overall attendance and dwell times to peak density hours and international visitor origin.
