Last Friday at the PR IMPACT AWARDS ceremony, the RISE project communication was recognised in two categories:

RISE is a project about building bridges — between people, cultures, and communities. This Friday, those bridges were celebrated.

Today, we hosted a webinar presenting key findings from a study by the IOM Regional Office in Vienna on Central Asian labour migration to Europe, with a particular focus on Lithuania and Poland.

It examined migration trends, pathways, protection gaps, and challenges migrants face. As migration grows, both countries are becoming key destinations, mainly through employer-sponsored channels, while the number of Central Asian nationals in the EU has nearly tripled between 2020 and 2024.

In his opening remarks, Jason Theede, Regional Thematic Specialist on Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion at IOM Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, highlighted the importance of practical migration pathways, circular migration, and early integration measures.

Harley Danielle Emery, Data and Research Consultant at the IOM Regional Office Vienna, presented key findings on migration drivers, the growing role of Lithuania and Poland, and risks such as misinformation, unethical recruitment, debt, and language barriers, alongside efforts to strengthen systems and worker protections.

Andrew Jeremy Gray, Head of Office at IOM Uzbekistan, shared insights on Uzbekistan’s labour migration reforms, focusing on ethical recruitment, training, skills recognition, and stronger partnerships aligned with European labour market needs.

We are proud to share that our colleague Agnė Kurpytė-Nishnianidze represented IOM Lithuania at the IOM AI Training of Champions, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 19 to 22 May 2026. 👏

The global training brought together IOM colleagues from all regions to strengthen capacities in AI and digital innovation — fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of concrete regional plans to scale AI training across the Organization.

IOM Lithuania remains committed to digital transformation and the responsible use of emerging technologies in migration management and service delivery.

| Praėjusį savaitgalį RISE bendruomenė leidosi į išvyką į Anykščius.

Kartu praleidome dieną pažindami tradicinį lietuvišką amatą – dalyvavome vytelių pynimo dirbtuvėse, bendravome prie bendrų pietų ir mėgavomės pavasariška gamta vaikščiodami Medžių lajų taku bei aplankydami Puntuko akmenį.

Džiaugiamės galėdami kurti tokias bendras patirtis ir pažinti Lietuvą kartu.

| Last weekend, the RISE community went on a trip to Anykščiai.

Together, we spent the day exploring a traditional Lithuanian craft through willow weaving workshops, sharing a meal, and enjoying spring nature while visiting the Tree Canopy Walkway and the famous Puntukas Stone.

We are happy to create opportunities to explore Lithuania together and build meaningful connections.

Praėjusią savaitę EMN komanda vedė paskaitą VU Lyčių studijų centro studentams. Jos metu pristatėme migracijos situaciją Lietuvoje bei supažindinome su EMN studija apie šeimos susijungimą. Taip pat diskutavome apie pagrindines migracijos tendencijas ir iššūkius.

Gegužės 18 d. susitikome su Lenkijos Jogailaičių universiteto Europos studijų studentų asociacijos atstovais.

Susitikimo metu aptarėme ekonominius ir politinius migracijos veiksnius, migraciją reglamentuojančius teisės aktus, užsieniečių situaciją Lietuvoje, pagrindines migracijos tendencijas bei pasidalinome tyrimais apie visuomenės nuostatas migrantų atžvilgiu.

Studentai taip pat pristatė savo projektą „Lithuania in the New Regional Security Architecture“, kuriame nagrinėjama demografijos, migracijos ir nacionalinės tapatybės sąveika.

Last week, the EMN team delivered a lecture to students of the Gender Studies Centre at Vilnius University. During the session, we presented the migration situation in Lithuania and introduced the EMN study on family reunification. We also discussed the main migration trends and challenges.

On May 18, we met with representatives of the European Studies Students’ Association from Jagiellonian University in Poland.

During the meeting, we discussed the economic and political drivers of migration, legal frameworks regulating migration, the situation of foreigners in Lithuania, and the main migration trends. We also shared research on public attitudes towards migrants.

The students presented their project “Lithuania in the New Regional Security Architecture,” which examines the interaction between demographics, migration, and national identity.

We are happy with the collaboration and the interest of students in migration topics!

Yesterday, air raid alerts were declared across Lithuania.

We understand this may have been confusing, especially if you are not yet familiar with Lithuania's emergency alert system. Here is what the different levels mean:

🟡 Yellow alert - a possible aerial threat is being assessed. No attack is taking place, but stay informed and identify your nearest shelter.
🔴 Red alert - an aerial threat is considered immediate. Go to the nearest shelter or basement now. Stay away from windows. Wait for the official all - clear.
⚪ White - no current threat. Normal activities can continue.
Lithuania uses the LT Alert system to notify residents directly on their phones. Make sure emergency alerts are enabled - do not disable them.

Вчера в Литве была объявлена воздушная тревога.
Понимаем, что это могло вызвать беспокойство, особенно если система экстренного оповещения Литвы вам ещё незнакома. Вот что означают разные уровни тревоги:

🟡 Жёлтый - возможная воздушная угроза находится на стадии оценки. Атаки нет, но важно следить за обновлениями и заранее узнать, где находится ближайшее укрытие.
🔴 Красный - угроза признана непосредственной. Немедленно перейдите в ближайшее укрытие или подвал, держитесь подальше от окон и ждите официального сигнала отбоя.
⚪ Белый - угрозы нет. Обычный режим.

В Литве действует система LT Alert - экстренные оповещения приходят прямо на телефон. Убедитесь, что они включены, и не отключайте их.
