We‘re on DELFI.lt news – Vertex CEO Ernestas Petkevicius shared his thoughts on the gender pay gap in IT companies.

As described in the article, the difference in earnings between women and men remains relatively high in most IT enterprises. However, the situation is changing and in some companies, the average wage for women and men is almost the same, or women earn even more on average than men do.

We‘re happy to see that our company is among them: according to our CEO, Vertex aims to ensure fair pay for all employees regardless of their gender or other circumstances.

"Gender of the employee is not important to companies. The salary is determined by employee‘s qualification, their salary expectations, and overall market situation, but not by the gender“, – explains Ernestas and urges women to be bolder and more confident in salary negotiations.

Here are some tips from Vitalijus for those who want to boost their daily energy and to live longer and healthier:

✔️ The importance of our behaviour is critical: don‘t smoke, eat more wild plants and legumes, avoid processed food, and don‘t forget to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine.
✔️ Optimize the level of Mitochondria – the membrane-bound cell organelles, also known as „energy makers”. According to Vitalijus, Mitochondria in simple words is the place where we create our energy. Unfortunately, when getting older people lose Mitochondrias, although there are many ways how to increase their level.
✔️ Add MCT oil to your food, usually found in coconut. Try to add a bit of MCT oil to the coffee – according to Vitalijus, it‘s very good for our energy. Coconut oil, which is very rich in MCTs, is also suitable.
✔️ Avoid fluoride (found in public water, toothpaste, mouthwash liquids), fructose (choose berries instead of fruit), sugar. "Don‘t eat food without nutrition. Snacking is not good, make at least 2-3 hours pause between food intakes", - advises Vitalijus.
✔️ Cold therapy, infrared, sauna, high-intensity trainings and fasting for at least 16 hours also help to create energy.
✔️ Try breathing for stress management – concentration on breathing really works and can make a huge difference.

We are super happy to be a part of the “Little Wizzard” program in Lithuania, which will open the world of new technologies for children in need or those who live in small distant towns. These children, hundreds of them, simply do not have the same opportunities and access to non-formal education as children in big cities. Therefore we joined forces with other IT companies as well as innovative tech teachers and the “Little Wizard’s” journey full of amazing discoveries has successfully begun.

“The first phase of the project involved 143 children from 15 children’s day care centers in Zarasai, Seda, Kupiškis, Šimonys, Radviliškis, Šiauliai, Alytus, Mažeikiai, Kriaunos, Salakas, Alizavas, Užpaliai and Aukštadvaris. And this is only the beginning! We aim to teach children in need coding, programming basics and hope to help them not only to discover the new technologies but also to unfold their unique talents”, - says Rasa Statuleviciene, representative of the “Little Wizzard” project.

Vertex teammate Mykolas wears our special T-shirt, made for our workation in Malaga. Just a few days left and we‘ll move our office under the Spanish sun for a week – all together we‘ll enjoy Spain‘s beaches, amazing sea views, laughs and long talks and at the same time will do some work, of course!

“Can’t wait for it. Looking forward to spend time with colleagues not in the usual work environment. I think it’s a good opportunity to know your teammates better. Some of them I’ll meet for the first time – those who work remotely in other cities or even other countries, - says Mykolas, our Business Development Representative. – I hope to have morning runs with our CEO there and go surfing – to stand on a surfboard again and practically try what I have learned during my surf classes a few months ago.”

Raimundas, Product owner at Vertex, adds that every year they do workations somewhere abroad: “First part of the day is usually dedicated for work and another one – for something fun together with your team people. I can easily switch on and work even on a sunbed by the pool – I’ve tried it on our Greece workation and it is really worked”, - says Raimundas.

We are very proud of our CEO who just got back from Barcelona, where he took part in the event IRONMAN 2021! Ernestas says that the most fun was the swimming part and his time was even better than he expected - 5 hours 20 min 🦾 Great result, indeed!

As Janis says, these two days at the WWC event were very productive and challenging – full of interesting meetings and new contacts: “The atmosphere was amazing – the venue was buzzing with professionals from the industry. Everyone was happy to meet
partners in person again after the long lockdown. Meeting face to face in the new remote work world actually means a lot. Meetings became very warm and highly effective.”

Anna Vechurko, our colleague in the business development department, adds that WWC event in Madrid was a great place not only to meet clients and partners live, but also to present them our business strengths and uniqueness. So now we look forward for follow-ups, exciting projects and, of course, new live meetings with our clients wherever in the world!
