The United States has announced nearly $2 billion in partnerships with faith-based and community organizations to expand lifesaving health and humanitarian assistance around the world.

The funding includes $1.4 billion to strengthen more than 2,500 faith-based hospitals, clinics, and community health hubs across 17 countries and train more than 30,000 community health workers. An additional $538 million will support humanitarian assistance expected to reach 7 million people affected by 16 humanitarian crises, while strengthening disaster preparedness in 23 disaster-prone countries.

Working with trusted partners including World Vision, Compassion International, and Samaritan's Purse, this investment aims to strengthen frontline health services, improve emergency response, and deliver critical assistance to communities in some of the world's most challenging environments.

The U.S. Embassy in Lesotho is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Senior Project Management Specialist (Foreign Assistance Coordinator).

𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The Senior Project Management Specialist (Foreign Assistance Coordinator) is an expert in health and foreign assistance and serves as a resource in strategic planning, program and activity design, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Department of State (State) Foreign Assistance program and component projects and activities, particularly the U.S.-Lesotho Health Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the response to HIV/AIDS. The job holder engages in the administration and management of State assistance programs through various foreign assistance mechanisms, to ensure that U.S. Government (USG) project objectives are achieved in accordance with financial, timing, and regulatory requirements with direction from the America First Global Health Strategy. The position serves as a designated or alternate representative of the USG for the oversight and management of all implementing mechanisms and activities (e.g. Contracting/Grants/Agreement Officer’s Representative (COR/GOR/AOR), Alternate COR/GOR/AOR and/or Activity Manager). The primary product of this position is the successful implementation of Department of State Foreign Assistance Programs projects and activities, including the U.S.-Lesotho Health MOU.

The position is in the U.S. Embassy Maseru’s Political and Economic Section, which oversees State Foreign Assistance Programs in Lesotho and is supervised by the Political and Economic Section Head and Deputy Chief of Mission through the Foreign Assistance Officer lead. The position supervises a team of local staff supporting the Foreign Assistance Office through the Foreign Assistance Officer lead and engages at a senior level with government and civil society officials.

Mantšase Children’s Home
In 1978, workers pressed a foundation stone into the earth of Mohale's Hoek, Lesotho.
With support from the American Embassy Self-Help Fund, the original buildings of Mantšase Children's Home rose from the ground— a testament to what the United States and Lesotho could build together for future generations.
Nearly five decades later, those walls still stand.
For over 40 years, Mantšase has been more than a shelter, it has been a lifeline for Lesotho's most vulnerable children. Children robbed of childhood by poverty. Children left orphaned by HIV/AIDS and children failed by circumstance.
As the United States and Lesotho mark 60 years of bilateral relations, Mantšase Children's Home stands as one of our proudest shared legacies proving that when two nations invest in their most vulnerable, the impact echoes across generations.

Realignment of routine visa processing in sub-Saharan Africa to approximately 20 regional hubs will start on August 1. This will strengthen U.S. national security by promoting rigorous visa screening and vetting standards and better align resources and operational capacity with America’s national interests. For Lesotho citizens, routine visa processing has already been conducted at the U.S. Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa since 2021, while diplomatic/official non-immigrant visas and some other no-fee non-immigrant visas have continued being processed in Lesotho at the U.S. Embassy. Moving forward all routine fee-based visa processing for Lesotho citizens will continue to be processed at the U.S. Consulate in Johannesburg, while diplomatic/official visas and some no-fee visas will continue being processed in Lesotho.

The U.S. Embassy greatly enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate with Honorable Minister Lejone Mpotjoane, Honorable Minister Nthati Moorosi, and Honorable Minister Thabo Mofosi the signing of an agreement for the Kobong Project between the Ministry of Energy and U.S. firm Convalt Energy. The project will provide Lesotho with 1,200 MW of hydropower and 4,600 MW of solar power as well as strategically valuable compute space through an AI data center. This is what we mean by trade over aid, a mutually beneficial investment that places Lesotho at the center of the AI revolution.

This milestone year, the United States marks 250 years of independence and 60 years of diplomatic relations with Lesotho!
