Big Data – අපේ ජීවිතය වෙනස් කරන දත්ත ලෝකය

අද ලෝකයේ “Big Data” කියන සංකල්පය වර්ධනය වෙමින් තියෙනවා. අපි දිනපතා භාවිත කරන mobile phones, social media, websites, sensors වගේ දේවල් වලින් විශාල දත්ත ප්‍රමාණයක් (Data Volume) නිපදවෙනවා. මේ දත්ත ප්‍රමාණය MB, GB, TB කියලා නොනවතින ලෙස වර්ධනය වෙමින් යනවා.
ඒ වගේම මේ දත්ත හරහා ලැබෙන තොරතුරු ඉතා වේගයෙන් (Data Velocity) ඉහළ යමින් ඇත. Real-time සහ near real-time processing හරහා business, healthcare, education වගේ ක්ෂේත්‍ර වලදී තීරණ ඉක්මනින් ගන්න පුළුවන් වෙනවා.
තවත් වැදගත් දෙයක් තමයි Data Variety. අද දත්ත කියන්නේ සරල table data විතරක් නෙවෙයි. Video, audio, images, social media posts වගේ විවිධ ආකාර වලින් දත්ත තිබෙනවා. මේවා structured සහ unstructured data ලෙස වෙන් වෙනවා.

මේවා Volume, Velocity, Variety, etc එකට එකතු වෙලා තමයි Big Data කියන සංකල්පය ගොඩනැගිලා තියෙන්නේ. Big Data නිසා business වලට customer behavior හඳුනාගන්න පුළුවන්, doctors ලාට රෝග හඳුනාගන්න පහසු වෙනවා, සහ අපේ දෛනික ජීවිතය ‍‍වඩාත් smart වෙමින් පවතින අතර ඉදිරියේදී Artificial Intelligence (AI) සහ Machine Learning (ML) එක්ක Big Data එකතුවෙලා තවත් විශාල වෙනස්කම් ලෝකයට ගෙන ඒමට නියමිතයි.

Big Data සහ Data Science වල ඇති වැදගත් කම නිසාම “Data is the new oil” යන අදහස දැන් ලෝකයට පැමිණෙමින් තිබෙනවා.
