වෙසක් පොහොය දිනය බෞද්ධ ජනතාව ඉතාමත් උත්කර්ෂවත් අයුරින් සැමරීමට ප්‍රධාන හේතුව වන්නේ සිදුහත් කුමරුගේ ඉපදීම, බුදුවීම, සහ බුදුන්වහන්සේගේ පිරිනිවන් පෑම වෙසක් පුර පසළොස්වක පොහොය දිනයක දී සිදුව තිබීම යි. එදා ලුම්බිණි සල් උයනේ දී සිද්ධාර්ථ කුමාරයා ලෙසින් උප්පත්තිය ලැබූ බෝසතාණන් වහන්සේ ජීවිතය පිළිබඳව කලකිරීමෙන් පසුව 29 හැවිරිදි වියේ දී ගිහිගෙයින් නික්ම ගියා. ඉන් අනතුරුව වසර 6ක් දුෂ්කර ක්‍රියා කළත් බුද්ධත්වයට පත්වීමට හැකිවුණේ නැහැ. නමුත් ඉන් පසුව අත්ථ කිලමතානු යෝගය සහ කාම සුඛල්ලිකානු යෝගය අත් හැර මධ්‍යම ප්‍රතිපදාව අනුගමනය කළ බෝසතාණන් වහන්සේ ටික කලකින් බුද්ධගයාවේ ඇසතු බෝ රුක් මුලක දී බුද්ධත්වයට පත්වුණා. එලෙස බුද්ධත්වයට පත්වුණු අප මහා බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ වසර 45ක් ලෝක වාසීන්ගේ හිත සුව පිණිස කටයුතු කළා. එදා ලෝක වාසීන්ගේ යහපත වෙනුවෙන් කටයුතු කළ අප මහා බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ 80 හැවිරිදි වියේ දී පරිනිර්වාණය කළේ කුසිනාරා නුවර මල්ල රජදරුවන්ගේ සල් උයනේ දී යි.
