Designed for a husband-and-wife artist duo and their young daughter, this home reinterprets Sri Lankan vernacular architecture within a compact 12-perch urban setting. The design evokes the calmness of colonial spatial qualities, softened through openness rather than solidity.
Layered verandas and fluid spaces dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside, creating a continuous dialogue with nature. A serene courtyard invites light, greenery, and natural ventilation, shaping a peaceful everyday living experience.
Warm timber and handcrafted elements, combined with earthy textures, express a timeless material palette rooted in local tradition. The house becomes a quiet retreatβbalancing art, family life, and tropical living within a contemporary architectural language.
