For World Environment Day 2026, the AUB Archives highlights selections from both its University Archives and Special Collections. From the University Archives, we revisit AUB’s commitment to environmental preservation through the 2003 initiative in which the Environment Club helped establish AUB as a bird sanctuary. From our Special Collections, we feature a remarkable photograph of the olive forest in Shuwayfat from the Joseph & Joyce Stein Photo Collection, captured as early as 1898, offering a glimpse of Lebanon’s natural landscape more than a century ago.

In celebration of World Football Day, and in anticipation of next month's FIFA World Cup, we uncovered a classic featuring one of the greatest footballers of all time: Pelé.

Pelé visited Lebanon in April 1975 as part of a global exhibition tour with the New York Cosmos. During his visit, he conducted a training session on the American University of Beirut’s Green Field with aspiring football players under the supervision of coach Julio Mazzi.
