Today, the ENGAGE Project team from the University of Nairobi and University of California San Francisco kicked off a 3-day workshop to develop the Year 2 Workplan for the Tier 1 pilot and Tier 2&3 Cohort 2 training. This initiative is all about empowering girls and young women from underprivileged backgrounds in AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science. Tier 1 focuses on inspiring high school girls to explore data science, while Tier 2&3 equips diploma students (TVETs) and university undergraduates with hands-on skills to tackle public health challenges in their communities. The training will take place across six regional universities in Kenya, and by the end of this workshop, we’ll have a clear plan to guide Year 2 activities.

Today, we stand together to raise awareness and fight against cancer. Each year, approximately 27,092 precious lives are lost to cancer in Kenya. As the third leading cause of death, following infectious and cardiovascular diseases, cancer continues to affect countless families and communities.

Let's unite in our efforts to spread awareness, support those battling cancer, and advocate for better prevention, detection, and treatment options. Together, we can make a difference.

Today, cohort 1 of young women trained last year in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science as part of the ENGAGE Project visited the ENGAGE Project offices at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (UNITID).

These young Tier 2 and 3 women underwent training last August and are now empowered to tackle public health issues in their communities. It was exciting to hear about the inspiring innovations, aspirations, and activities in which they are involved in their communities.
