At Millimag Rabbits Farm, our shift from wooden cages to metal cages was inspired by lessons learned through exchange visits to other rabbit farms. We believe that learning and sharing experiences with fellow farmers is key to growth and improved production, which is why we welcome farmers, students, and rabbit enthusiasts to visit, learn, and exchange knowledge with us. πŸ‡πŸŒ±

πŸ‡ Rabbit Farming and the Blue Economy 🐟

When people talk about the Blue Economy, many think only about fishing, ports, and marine transport. But the Blue Economy is also about creating sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities, and rabbit farming has a major role to play.

Rabbit farming offers a smart opportunity for coastal regions because it:
1. Requires minimal land space
2. Uses less water compared to many livestock systems
3. Supports urban and peri-urban farming
4. Creates jobs for youth and women
5. Promotes climate-smart agriculture

In coastal counties like Mombasa, rabbit farming can complement the Blue Economy by strengthening:
πŸ– Food and nutrition security
πŸ’Ό MSME and youth enterprise development
♻️ Organic agriculture through rabbit manure and urine utilization
🌍 Sustainable and eco-friendly food systems

One of the most exciting opportunities is the linkage between rabbit farming and aquaculture. Fresh rabbit droppings can be directly utilized in fish ponds as feed and also support the growth of plankton and natural fish feed organisms, helping reduce dependence on expensive commercial fish feeds. This creates an integrated and sustainable farming system where waste from one enterprise becomes a valuable input for another.

Rabbit manure also improves soil fertility for crop farming, making rabbit farming a key driver of circular agriculture and integrated coastal food production systems.

As Kenya continues to expand the Blue Economy agenda, we must embrace innovative and inclusive agribusiness models that empower communities beyond the ocean itself.

πŸ‡πŸŸ Rabbit farming is not just livestock production, it is a pathway to sustainable coastal economic transformation and integrated food systems.

Rabbit breeding and record keeping go hand in hand. If you're missing one, doesn't do the other. Otherwise inbreeding is in foresight, and that's what is going ruin your breeding stock
