TopStar Kenya Joins Climate Resilience Efforts in Mwingi West, Kitui County

On 17th Sep 2025, TopStar NGO Kenya recently fellow members of the Kenya for Resilience (K4R) network on a critical mission to Mwingi West, Kitui County, to understand and support local climate resilience initiatives. The visit aimed to explore how communities in arid and semi-arid regions are adapting to the increasing effects of climate change.

During the visit, the team engaged with local residents and stakeholders to learn firsthand about the challenges they face — from prolonged droughts to diminishing water sources — and the innovative ways they are responding. One of the key highlights of the mission was the success story of the Wenzei community, which has made significant strides in addressing water scarcity.

With the support of Caritas Kitui, the Wenzei community successfully drilled a borehole, bringing much-needed relief to an area that had long suffered from water shortages. This initiative has not only improved access to clean water but also enhanced the community’s ability to sustain agriculture and livestock — vital components of their livelihoods.

TopStar Kenya, expressed its commitment to raising awareness about climate change and amplifying the voices of resilient communities through its platforms. The visit underscored the power of collaboration between the private sector, NGOs, and local communities in building a more climate-resilient Kenya.

"We are inspired by the resilience of the Wenzei community and proud to be part of a network that is driving real impact," said a representative from TopStar Kenya.

As climate challenges continue to intensify, stories like Wenzei’s offer hope and a model for what is possible when communities are empowered and supported in their adaptation efforts.
