初心 •Shoshin (Beginner’s mind)
It’s the open-minded attitude of being ready to learn; without preconceived notions, judgement or bias, even at an advanced level.
Shoshin reminds us to be open to knowledge, experience, and wisdom in all parts of our day, in all parts of our lives, and perhaps most importantly, from all sources, all people in our circle of experience. As we become more experienced in our study of karatedō, it becomes easy to forget that many times wisdom may come from our juniors. And outside the dojo, we often forget that the simplest experiences and the youngest members of our communities may lead us to unexpected treasures of wisdom.
Whether we are learning something new or polishing our existing knowledge, keeping a beginner’s mind allows us to see new connections in the knowledge we are seeking and to gain new perspectives on what we study and seek to improve.
To fill out minds, we must not only empty them of preconceptions, but we also must approach learning with the modesty that shoshin gives us.

In questa scuola uno degli obiettivi è senz’altro quello di rendere più forte il praticante:
fisicamente, mentalmente, emotivamente e, cosa abbastanza ovvia, 'tecnicamente’.
Ma lo scopo ultimo è rendere il praticamente migliore come essere umano.
Si tratta quindi di percorrere, con dedizione e costanza, un cammino necessariamente lungo e tortuoso, capace di produrre nel praticante una reale ‘trasformazione’: modificandone anche il comportamento, la percezione della realtà, la vicinanza e l'empatia con gli altri, in totale adesione ai più alti e irrinunciabili valori umani.

We come come together every year in November to show respect, to train hard and for us to remember and honor Shuseki Shihan William Oliver, our beloved karate master.
He laid the foundation for the Kenshikai Karate Do organization and was and still is a source of great inspiration for the Kenshikai Karate Do Organization and many other karate-ka around the world.

Our Shuseki Shihan William Oliver Memorial workout went well. It was a cold day with cool waters. Great for testing our mind, body and spirit.
Let us continue to remember our great Karate Master and continue to train and to live as karate-ka. And to strive to be the best version of ourselves.
