At our first meeting for the year, my grade 8 mentees gave me a bracelet.
Student 1: You must wear this all the time...
Student 2: or something bad will happen...
Me: What could be so bad?
Student 1: You will find out that one divided by zero is a number.
Student 3: Yeah! It's 13 in base 5.
I laugh hysterically.
(Non-Math people explanation: 13 (base 5) is 8, and 8 turned horizontally is the symbol for infinity. )
