Carlo Bartoli: design that feels like it’s always been there
Architect and lifetime Compasso d’Oro award winner, Bartoli believed in simplicity, function, and quiet innovation. His objects never shout — they belong.
Rigorous and inventive, he oversaw every technical detail, working with both large and small manufacturers. From these collaborations came icons like the Kartell 4875 chair (1974), the world’s first polypropylene chair, balancing technology, low cost, and everyday use. Humble and determined, always in service of the project, he believed in timeless, ethical, human design.
A secret passion? A folding bike, which he proposed to students at the Politecnico di Milano.
