Italian collective of documentary photographers founded in Florence in 2006.

TerraProject Photographers is a collective of documentary photographers founded in Italy in 2006. Its members are Michele Borzoni, Simone Donati, Pietro Paolini and Rocco Rorandelli. Among the first photographic collective born in Italy, since its onset TerraProject has represented not only a common promotional platform for its members, but also a creative tool to experiment with an original “collective writing” approach, with the creation of group reportage characterized by a carefully refined stylistic uniformity. With an eye on both the Italian reality and the most relevant global issues, the members of TerraProject have produced numerous individual and collective essays, utilizing both the classic photographic medium and the multimedia approach. The works of the collective have been published in the pages of the most important international magazines, including Der Spiegel, Financial Times Magazine, GEO (Germany and France), Le Monde Magazine, Monocle, Newsweek and Newsweek Japan, Paris Match, Stern, Time, The Wall Street Journal and in Italy on D La Repubblica, Geo, IL, Internazionale, Io Donna, L'Espresso, Sette, Sportweek and Vanity Fair. Many of their reportage have been exhibited in New York, Beijing, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Madrid, Barcelona, Dublin and in many Italian cities, and the collective's members have been guests of numerous international photo festivals. TerraProject photographers have received many prestigious international awards including the World Press Photo (2010 and 2012), the Canon Prize (2010) and the Pesaresi prize (2013).

- 20 years of collective vision -
This year, TerraProject celebrates 20 years, and to mark the occasion, we're publishing a series of projects from our archive to showcase our work. Throughout 2026, we'll be organizing several events to celebrate these twenty years with you: conferences, portfolio reviews, and exhibitions—you can find all the information on our social media channels.
“Archipelago Russia” documents the geopolitical landscape along the border with Russia. Our collective traveled along parts of the 5700 km of frontier between Russia and eight states. Cultural, economic and political relations link these countries through an osmotic relationship. We explored the imaginary and physical lines dividing Europe from Russia, going from Belarus, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland and Ukraine, documenting the landscape and the people living there. The work was a co-production of four leading media outlets: M le magazine du Monde (France), BuzzFeed (USA), Internazionale (Italy) and Politico Europe (Belgium) with the support of Canon Italia.

“Portraits from the future” is a commission for Vada Photo Festival where we photographed the Novaro Primary School in Vada (LI), with the idea of creating the 2026 Yearbook. For two days, the school was transformed into a space for photography and experimentation. Through self-portraits, photographic portraits, and a group photo, each student was able to share their stories and contribute to the construction of a collective image of the school community.
By creating their self-portrait, each participant was able to experiment with their relationship with the camera and with their own image. In front of the mirror, using a remote shutter system, the children chose how to look and how to be looked at. A simple gesture, but also a way to participate in the construction of one’s own representation. The exhibition brings together the results of that process and brings the participants’ self-portraits into dialogue with those created by TerraProject. A collection of images that attempts to convey, through photography, the complexity, vitality, and plurality of the new generations.

We’re really happy to present Silent Springs the new book by Michele Borzoni and Rocco Rorandelli, designed by Tommaso Tanini and published by Loose Joints. The book is a radical portrait of youth climate activism across Europe, as a generation steps onto the public stage to fight for its own future.

Silent Springs follows climate activism led by young people to respond to the worsening environmental crisis and increasing political restrictions. The project highlights the connections between different movements, revealing a shared commitment to confronting global challenges through collective action.

Using a clear documentary approach, Michele Borzoni and Rocco Rorandelli examine the organisation, preparation, and methods behind several environmental groups. Their photographs, paired with a glossary explaining the key concepts and practices of climate activism, document the different phases of these campaigns while offering insight into the values and strategies that sustain them.

The book is available trough Loose Joints shop: https://loosejoints.biz/collections/current-titles/products/silent-springs
