Many solutions.

Can cow dung make vanilla? 🐄

Not quite.

It can make vanillin — the molecule behind vanilla’s aroma.

In 2007, chemist Mayu Yamamoto developed a method to extract vanillin from cow dung—and won an Ig Nobel Prize in Chemistry for it.

The surprising part?

The starting material was plant-derived lignin.

Plant → cow → dung → chemistry → vanillin.

Maybe “waste” is sometimes just a resource we haven’t looked at closely enough. 🔬

We all knew banana peels were slippery. 🍌

Four scientists wanted to know:
“How slippery?”

That question won them the 2014 Ig Nobel Prize in Physics.

Kiyoshi Mabuchi, Kensei Tanaka, Daichi Uchijima and Rina Sakai actually measured it.

And then they found the reason:

When the peel gets crushed, it releases a gel that acts like a lubricant.

In TechArc’s 14-market comparison, the average price was:

$2,248 across 6 mature, higher-income markets
vs.
$3,669 across 8 lower- & middle-income markets.

That’s a 63% difference.

Same phone.
Different markets.
Very different prices.

So… why?

Taxes?
Duties?
Currency?
Distribution?
Pricing strategy?

Sometimes, the most interesting thing isn’t the answer.
