स्वामी विवेकानंद जी मूल रुप से एक ओजस्वी पुरुष थे, जिन्होंने सर्वोच्च सत्य का ज्ञान प्राप्त किया था। यह ओजस्वी स्वभाव उनके बहुमुखी व्यक्तित्व का एक प्रमुख पहलू था।
इसके अतिरिक्त वें एक देशभक्त (सामान्य देशभक्त से अलग) सन्यासी थे। वे नितांत एक अलग ही प्रकार के समाज सुधारक थे, दिव्य शक्ति से अनुप्राणित वक्ता थे एवं संस्कृत बंगला और अंग्रेजी कविताओं के प्रणेता थे। इसके अतिरिक्त अपने दुर्लभ सुरीले कंठ के कारण अपने गुरु श्री रामकृष्ण परमहंस की कृपा के भाजन भी थे।
