The Human Rights Forum (HRF) rejects Andhra Pradesh IT Minister N Lokesh’s attempt to dismiss growing public concern over the proposed hyperscale AI data centers in Visakhapatnam as “deliberate misinformation”. Speaking in the Assembly on August 19, the Minister also asserted that environmental responsibility would be prioritised and defended the projects’ water and power requirements.

HRF demands the Government allocate the Bheemrao Wada land to residents by constructing G+4 pattern 2BHK houses at the rear, while reserving the front portion for public development.

The Human Rights Forum (HRF) strongly condemns the outrageous and wholly unjustified conduct of the Visakhapatnam police in preventing citizens from peacefully campaigning against the indiscriminate proliferation of massive data centers in and around the city.

A government that claims its data-center policies serve the public interest should welcome public scrutiny, not seek to suppress it. It cannot defend its policies by deploying the police against citizens who question them. The police may enforce the law, but they do not have the authority to police dissent. In a democracy, the police have no business dictating where citizens may gather, what they may say or whether they may even take a photograph before Bhagat Singh’s statue.

Rights lawyer flags poor awareness of SC s*x workers ruling

Lawyer Vasudha Nagaraj stated that despite the Supreme Court’s directions, adult voluntary s*x workers continue to be institutionalised against their will.
