At Distinct Destinations, we believe that exceptional travel experiences are created by the people who give life to the destinations.

The Distinct Destinations “Experience Leadership Forum 2026” in Kochi was an exclusive gathering of Tour Managers, Experience Curators and Partners for a day of learning, collaboration and celebration.

The day was enriched by insightful sessions from our distinguished guest speakers. Ms. Jayanti (Jonty) Rajagopalan inspired the audience with her thought-provoking session on raising the bar and striving for excellence.

Thakur Durga Singh Ji captivated the team with his wealth of knowledge, enriching anecdotes, and able insights on achieving distinction.

The programme concluded with an inspiring address by Mr. Jose Dominic, a pioneer in the industry, who shared his unique experiences, perspectives, and wisdom accumulated over decades of leadership and innovation.

India, in Conversation — Hansraj Kumawat, Jaipur

As we approach Independence Day, we’ve been thinking about the people who, in their own ways, continue to shape the India of today.

Hansraj Kumawat is one of them.

In Jaipur, we spent time with Hansraj talking about his work, his experiments with different forms and materials, and the curiosity that keeps him creating.

His story is about carrying forward what you know, while giving yourself the freedom to explore what it could become.

In our Independence Day series, his is one of the stories we wanted to share.

India, in Conversation.

India, in Conversation — Kamal Kumar, Lucknow

At first glance, you might mistake them for the real thing.

Fruit and vegetables, shaped by hand — a skill that has lived in Kamal Kumar’s family for generations.

We spent some time with Kamal, watching him work and listening to him talk about his craft, the details that go into it, and why he continues to make them today.

Here’s a little of that conversation.

Every Independence Day, we talk about India.
This year, we thought we’d talk with it.

We spend much of our year travelling across the country, meeting people, and hearing their stories. We tell some of them.
Many more stay in our notebooks, our cameras, and our conversations.

As Independence Day approaches, we’re pausing to share a few that have stayed with us.
Not because they represent India.

Just because each one has helped us know it a little better.

India, in Conversation.

Some countries you travel across. India, you travel through time.

Scattered across the country are hundreds of clock towers — built during the colonial era, in a hundred different regional styles. Mumbai's Gothic spires rose with the age of the railways. Mysore and Bangalore reimagined European form with Indian craftsmanship. Darjeeling's tower has watched over the hills since the days of the Raj. Kolkata even built its own version of Big Ben. Every one of them was raised under an empire — and every one of them still stands, today, as unmistakably India's own.

That's the story worth marking this week. Not just how these towers were built, but everything that's happened since — 79 years of a country writing its own time.

This is just a glimpse of what's out there. Ten towers, ten cities, one country that took what it inherited and made it home.

To explore India is to time travel without ever leaving the ground.

The best meals are often the ones you never planned.

In India, every region has its own ingredients, cooking techniques, traditions, and stories. A journey through the country is also a journey through countless regional cuisines—each as distinct as the landscape itself.

From the spice-laden kitchens of Chettinad to the bustling food lanes of Old Delhi and the coastal flavours of Kerala, every destination offers a new way to experience the country.

The DD Edit is our curated collection of places we'd recommend to anyone who believes that food is one of the best reasons to travel.
