SKIMS Soura Announces Commencement of Regular Classes for BSc Nursing/Technology Students from Sept 17

Srinagar, September 15 (KNC): The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has announced the commencement of regular class work for students provisionally selected for BSc Nursing and BSc Technology courses for the academic session 2026.

According to a notice issued by the Dean Medical Faculty, SKIMS Soura, students selected through various BOPEE notifications have been informed that their regular classes will commence from September 17, 2026.

The institute has directed all provisionally selected candidates to report to the Academic Section, University Block, SKIMS Soura, located opposite the Emergency Department, on September 17 at 10:30 AM.

The notice pertains to students selected under BOPEE Notification No. 102-BOPEE of 2026 dated July 10, 2026; Notification No. 148-BOPEE of 2026 dated August 13, 2026; and Notification No. 175-BOPEE of 2026 dated September 2, 2026.

SKIMS has also circulated the notice among the concerned academic and administrative authorities and directed that it be uploaded on the institute’s official website for information of the selected candidates.

Ganderbal, September 15 (KNC): Residents of Manigam in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have raised concerns over the proposed closure of an old road link connecting the locality with the main highway following the installation of a road divider.

According to residents, the existing access point serves as an important link for the local population, commuters and businesses. They apprehend that its closure could create difficulties for pedestrians, motorists and shopkeepers by forcing people to use longer alternative routes.

Residents said the installation of the divider has already altered traffic movement in the area and urged the authorities to first ensure sufficient entry and exit points before proceeding with any decision to close the existing road.

“We have no objection to measures aimed at improving road safety, but the convenience and requirements of the local population must also be taken into consideration,” residents said.

Local shopkeepers have also expressed apprehension that restricted access could adversely affect customer movement and vehicular access to the nearby market.

The residents have appealed to the administration to conduct a detailed ground assessment and hold consultations with local stakeholders before taking any final decision on the proposed closure.

Officials, meanwhile, said the matter would be taken up with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and that the concerns raised by residents would be conveyed to the concerned authorities for consideration.

Residents have called for a balanced solution that strengthens road safety and traffic management without disrupting local connectivity and access to Manigam.(KNC)

9-Year-Old Boy’s Body Recovered from Nallah in Kaloosa After Days-Long Search

Bandipora, September 14 (KNC): The body of nine-year-old Momin Ahmad, a resident of Ganie Mohalla, Kaloosa, was recovered from a nallah in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday, bringing an end to a days-long search and rescue operation.

According to officials, the recovery was made after several days of intensive search efforts involving rescue teams, local authorities and community volunteers. The teams had been engaged in the operation to trace the missing child.

The boy’s body was eventually located in the water channel and retrieved by the rescue personnel.

Following the recovery, the concerned authorities have initiated the necessary legal and procedural formalities. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the incident are awaited.

Three Missing Minor Boys Traced to Pune After 10-Day Search Operation

Ganderbal, September 13 (KNC)Ganderbal Police have successfully traced three minor boys who had gone missing from the Tulmulla area of the district and reunited them with their respective families after an intensive 10-day search operation.

According to police, Police Station Kheerbhawani received a written complaint on September 3, 2026, from Hamza Bin Yousuf, son of Mohammad Yousuf Ganie, a resident of Tulmulla, reporting the disappearance of three minor boys.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Kheerbhawani and immediately launched an investigation to trace the missing children.

During the course of the investigation, police teams utilised technical intelligence, human intelligence and other investigative inputs to gather information about the whereabouts of the minors. A dedicated team was subsequently deputed to locate and safely bring them back.

After sustained efforts, the police team, with assistance from Maharashtra Police, traced all three boys at Daund Railway Station in Pune, Maharashtra, on September 9.

The minors were safely brought back to Ganderbal and, after completing the necessary formalities, were reunited with their respective families.

Ganderbal Police appreciated the coordinated efforts of all personnel and teams involved in locating the missing children and ensuring their safe return home.

The successful tracing of the three minors highlights the importance of coordinated investigation, technical surveillance and inter-state police cooperation in missing-person cases.(KNC)

GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 12:(KNC)A sudden hailstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall caused extensive damage to standing paddy crops across several areas of Ganderbal district, leaving farmers concerned about significant losses at a crucial stage of the agricultural season.

The hailstorm struck parts of the district late last night, affecting paddy fields in Pati Devpora, Malikpora, Kurag, Gogjigund and Sehpora, according to local farmers. The intense hail and rainfall reportedly damaged standing crops that were nearing maturity and harvesting.

Farmers said the sudden weather event has compounded their difficulties, with many fearing substantial losses after investing considerable resources and labour in cultivating the crop.

The affected farming community has urged the district administration and concerned agriculture authorities to undertake an immediate field assessment to ascertain the extent of damage and prepare a comprehensive report.

They have also sought timely compensation and relief under applicable government schemes and crop insurance provisions, stating that financial assistance is urgently required to help affected families recover from the losses.

Several farmers appealed to the authorities to deploy assessment teams to the affected villages at the earliest so that the damage can be properly documented and genuine beneficiaries are provided relief without unnecessary delay.

The farmers also urged the administration to keep a close watch on the weather situation in the coming days, particularly as the paddy crop has reached a critical stage ahead of harvesting.

The affected farmers expressed hope that the authorities would respond promptly to their concerns and take necessary measures to provide relief to those whose crops have been damaged by the hailstorm.(KNC)

GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 11:(KNC)A reported stunt attempt turned risky near Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Friday after a Scorpio vehicle entered Nallah Sindh and became stranded in the water channel.

According to preliminary reports, a group of youths was allegedly attempting to perform stunts with the vehicle when the Scorpio became stuck in the nallah, triggering an immediate rescue effort.

Soon after the incident was reported, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Sonamarg, accompanied by a team of police personnel, reached the spot. Local residents also joined the rescue operation to help retrieve the stranded vehicle.

The rescue efforts were underway at the time of filing this report.

Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and may take further action if any violation or negligence is established during the inquiry.

The incident once again highlights the risks associated with performing vehicle stunts in water channels and other hazardous areas.
