One early stormy morning, while we were having breakfast, I got a message from a friend, who was walking by the port:
“There’s something here you might like.”

When Sergey left for work, he took a detour to see it - and found an old rope pilot ladder washed ashore after the storm, most likely torn from a ship by the waves.

It was incredibly heavy. He rolled it up and slowly carried it all the way from the port to our studio, stopping to rest along the way.

We dried it - bringing it outside on day and back inside at night.

And when it was finally dry, we carried it into the workshop to turn it into something new.

I’ve always loved the scent of bergamot, but only here in Israel I saw this sun-warmed fruit for the first time.
Friends brought me a whole basket. I used the peel for hydrosol, and made juice from the fruits, freezing it for later.

From last of those portions I made this soap, together with guaiac wood. It has a warm, deep, slightly smoky scent, with hints of flowers, citrus, dried fruits and a little spices.

We’ve been together for over thirty years. We both used to manage large-scale projects at different companies. Then we left our office jobs and gradually built our own soap-making workshop. At first, Sergey handled logistics, suppliers, and bookkeeping. Then he learned how to make soap. We make some types of soap together.
